Nicaragua   is the  largest country of central of America in the America republics. It has been characterized by its agricultural economy, its history of autocratic government and for its imbalance of regional development.

The country has a unique history that was only in Latin America to be colonized by both the Spanish  and the British. Nicaragua’s population has been made up  mostly of mestizo. It the people of mixed European and indigenous ancestry.

1.Denis Martinez

Martinez, a former pitcher in Major League Baseball nicknamed as “El Presidente,” became the first pitcher of Latin American descent to throw a perfect game in 1991. He was elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016 after a lengthy career in the sport.

2. Roman Gonzalez

He is best known by his nickname Chocolatito” Roman is a Nicaraguan professional boxer. He is the first boxer from Nicaragua to win world titles in four weight classes. And having surpassed his mentor, idol, and former three-weight world champion, the late Alexis Arg眉ello.

Gonzalez  has held the WBA minimumweight title from 2008 to 2010; the WBA light flyweight title from 2011 to 2013; the WBC, and The Ring flyweight titles from 2014 to 2016. And WBC super flyweight title from 2016 to 2017; and the WBA (Super) super flyweight title from 2020 to 2021.

He has been ranked as the world’s second best active super flyweight by The Ring magazine. Roman  was also ranked by The Ring and ESPN as the world’s best active boxer, pound for pound. He is known particularly for his aggressive pressure fighting style.

3. Jose Areas

Jose is a Nicaraguan percussionist best known for having played Timbales and conga drums in the Latin rock group Santana. He was inducted into Rock and roll Hall of fame for his work in Santana. Areas has performed on Abraxas pool with other members of the early 1970siteration of Santana.

He was featured along with Richard Bean and Rich Aldana in the 2003 CD The sound of Santana by “The Tellstars” . And played alongside Michael Shrieve  and Rich Aldana in the 2007 CD ChaCha Time by the Tell stars.

Jose Chepito Areas, was the featured artist on, Ray Cepeda鈥 鈥淭he Neo Maya Experience鈥, 2000, 鈥淪olo鈥, 2012, 鈥淎ngels over Avalon & Aztlan 2008, Areas of Santaana, 2018, 鈥淎reas 51: Return of the Alien鈥 2019, Ray Cepeda, released on World Rock Records.

4. Xiomara Blandino

 Blandino  was born in 1984.She  is a Nicaraguan architecture student who held the title of Miss Nicaragua 2007. Blandino  participated in the Miss Universe 2007 contest representing Nicaragua and made it to the semifinals. She placed 10th overall where Miss Japan Riyo Mori went on to win the title.

5. Ricardo Mayorga 

Ricardo is Nicaraguan professional boxer and former martial artist who was born in 1973. He is a former twoweight world champion who has held the unified WBA ( unified) WBC, Ring Magazine and Iineal Welter weight titles in 2003 and the WBC super weight title from 2005 to 2006.

Ricardo Mayorga first became well known to boxing fan for being featured on the cover of the The Ring’s 2003 issue. That was  entitled ‘The craziest man in the sport Mayorga light up boxing.  He maintained this infamous reputation with his relentless trash-talk in the build -up to most of his fights.

6. Luis Enrique

Luis is a Nicaraguan singer-songwriter. He has been known as ‘El Principe de la Salsa( The Prince of Salsa). Enrique achieved a widespread success with the single “Yo No Se Manana”.

Luis has received two Grammy Awards Nominations for ” Best Tropical Latin Performance for album Luces del Alma and his song Amiga. He performed and recorded with Salsa romantic group sensation 85 which also included La Palabra and Nestor Torres.

7. Gioconda Belli

 Gioconda has been a Nicaraguan  author, Novelist and poet. She published her first poems in the literary supplement of Nicaraguan Newspaper La Prensa. Belli won the premio de posesia Mariano Fiallos Gil award from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua.

Belli’s book La Mujer Habitada ( The Inhabited Woman a semi-autobiographical novel had raised gender issues for the firs time  in the Nicaraguan. This brought her increased attention . The book has been published in several languages and was on the reading list    at four universities in the United States.

8. Everth Cabrera

Cabrera has a Nicaraguan  professional baseball infielder. He played in major League baseball (MLB) for the San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles. Everth led the National League (Nl) in stolen bases in 2012 and was an All-star in 2013.

Cabrera stole home in the 9th inning to score the tying run. The eventual winning run then scored when pitcher Kenley Jansen threw the ball past the catcher. This was the first time in nearly 30 years that a regular season MLB game was won with the tying or go-ahead run scoring on a steal of home in the 9th inning or later.

He became the first player in 14 years to steal four bases without recording a hit. Cabrera became the first Padre to lead the NL in stolen bases with 44. He set a team record with a 91.7 percent success rate on steals (44-for-48), which also led the NL.

 

9. Sylvia Poll

Poll has been an Olympic and National record holding swimmer from  Costa Rica. In the 1988 Olympics she won Costa Rica’s first Olympic medal. This was when she garnered the silver in the women’s 200 free.

Sylvia also swam for Costa Rica at the 1992 summer Olympics. She  has won a total number of 8medals at the 1987 Pan American Games and 2 of her times from those games still stand as Costa Rican records in 2009.

10. Juan Barrera

 Barrera is a Nicaraguan professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liga Nacional club Guastatoya and the Nicaragua National team. He became the second Nicaraguan footballer to play in a CONMEBOL First Division. This was when he was sent out on loan to Deportivo Petare of the Venezuelan Primera Divisi贸n for a six-month stint. He rejoined Estel铆 in summer 2013.

In early March it was announced that Barrera had signed with Austrian first division team SC Rheindorf Altach becoming the first Nicaraguan to play in Europe.
