Ali Zafar is a Pakistani singer, songwriter, model, actor, producer, and screenwriter who was born on 18 May 1980, in Lahore, Pakistan. 

Ali Zafar is one of Asia’s most multi-faceted talents and Pakistan’s most celebrated artiste. An accomplished actor, musician/ singer-songwriter/producer, and fine artist.

Ali is the first actor from Pakistan to have taken his work global by being the first Pakistani to feature as the main lead in the mainstream Bollywood market with 6 feature films to his credit and 3 box office hits.

Most people’s consumption of music, fashion, movies, and pop culture comes from the West and Europe. This begs the question, what has the rest of the world and especially Pakistan got to offer apart from exotic cuisine and culture?  Here are the 10 interesting facts about Ali Zafar from Pakistan.

1. Zafar as Sexiest man in Asia

Ali Zafar is considered the Sexiest Asian man. He was the runners-up in the list of the “Sexiest Asian Men On The Planet” in 2012. In 2013, he was unanimously declared the “Sexist Asian Man” topping the list of the Sexiest Asian Man On The Planet.

Zafar as an introvert found that he did not share interests or childhood experiences with his peers. Therefore, he sought after the company and associations of elders whom he liked talking with.

It is no wonder he picked up art and painting as an expression of himself and the world. He began sketching and creating his first comic books at the age of 8 years. His creativity and astuteness in sketching led him to try portrait artistry.

Zafar perfected his craft as a portrait artist and could finish one within a record of 20 minutes. His favorite place was the lobby of the Continental Hotel in Lahore.

3. Ali a well-literate Artist

Ali Zafar’s parents were both professors at the University of Punjab. Ali acquired his early education in C.A.A public school until the fifth grade when he was transferred to Beaconhouse School System to complete his matriculation examinations.

Ali then joined and graduated with F. An in Arts from the Government College of Lahore and pursued his dreams of painting at the National College of Arts, graduating with honors in the year 2002.

4. Zafar  Jack of All Trades

Zafar is a jack of all trades and a master of  Arts. Not only is he a portrait sketcher and painter, but also, he is a poet. He believes that as a creative who likes to read and write poetry, there is no limit to what one can do.

As an avid reader, his mantra is taken from Animal Farm stating that “one shouldn’t worry about anything in life because fear and worry only stop one from being successful”.

His limitlessness and creativity have propelled him to juggle painting, poetry, producing, acting as well as singing.

5. Zafar the Entertainer

Ali Zafar hit the music stage with his single “Channo” in 2003 which sold over half a million copies within the first week and an entirety sale of 5 million copies of his debut album “Huqa Paani.” 

With the biggest hits in the country and instantaneous fame and stardom, Zafar went ahead and released a dance single. The stratospheric fame made him a darling amongst the youths, leading him to be recognized as a national icon leading to the 2007 ” Youth icon” award, the biggest ceremony in Pakistan.

6. Zafar the Best of the Best

 Ali Zafar has continued to make ripples across the music and entertainment industry. He almost won all the major awards. In 2008 he was awarded the ” Best male Artist, Most Stylish Artist” at the MTV awards, making him the most popular pop singer in Pakistan.

In 2005 he was nominated for and won the “Category of Best Pop Music Album” Huqa Pani in Pakistan.  In 2004 he won the Lux Style Award for the ” Best Album.” In the Galaxy Lollywood Awards, Zafar won five awards with three more nominations in the categories of “Best Actor in the Leading Role(male)”, “Best Onscreen Couple (with Maya Ali)”  and Best Playback Singer male.” 

Ali is the only celebrity in Pakistan to have been endorsed by competing soft drinks companies; Coke and Pepsi, as well as, mobile providers; Sony Ericsson, Instaphone, and Mobilink amongst others. He became the first Pakistan male to endorse Lux, the biggest brand in soaps.

In March 2021, the president of Pakistan Arif Alvi awarded him the highest literary award, Pride of Performance, for his admirable compositions, contribution, and achievements in music and the field of arts.

7. Zafar’s First heartbreak & Forever Love

His first heartbreak happened while he was in 8th grade when his childhood crush did not reciprocate citing his feelings as immature. Later on in life, fate would intervene and he would meet his wife, Ayesha Fazli, where he drew her a portrait of herself, and that was the beginning of their love story.

8. A life scripted for the Movies

Zafar and his then-fiancée were kidnapped and later released after their families paid a huge ransom of R.s 2.5 Million. They were forced into the singer’s car at gunpoint by their kidnapper and made to drive around for three hours, later to be released near Chauburgi after the payout.  The kidnapper took their mobile phones and car and the case is yet to be solved to date.

9. Zafar’s sexual allegations

In 2018, fellow singer Meesha Shafi accused Zafar of sexual harassment, when she tweeted about being subjected to physical sexual harassment at the hands of a colleague on numerous occasions. Other women have since come forward claiming physical sexual harassment by Ali Zafar.

These allegations have since been labeled as “baseless and unfounded” through 9 replying affidavits.

10. Mr. Zafar the Producer

Yes,  Zafar can sing, dance, act, paint, model, and above all, he’s debuting his own production company in Pakistan. Zafar confesses that his dream has always been to make films and stories, which he sees as a way of rebuilding the future of Pakistan, the same way India did.

The realization of that dream is through building his brand and film industry by starting a production house by the name Nightingale Productions.
