10 Things to know about Kylian Mbappe’s Contract at PSG

Football is a physically demanding sport that requires a diverse set of skills such as explosive power, strength, agility, speed, and physical and mental toughness. Kylian Mbappe, a French-born football player, is one of the outstanding players who possess all of these qualities. Mbappe was born on December 20, 1998, in Paris, France. The French forward has played for major clubs and is currently at PSG. Other clubs were interested in him, despite PSG’s desire to keep him. Mbappe was offered a new contract extension by the club. The contract included some benefits that kept Kylian at the club.

This article discusses what you should know about the new contract. Let’s take a look;

1. The contract will keep Mbappe at PSG until 2025

Kylian Mbappe will stay at PSG. In principle, until 2025. This is when his new contract expires after turning down Real Madrid and penning a new deal that will not be cheap at all for the French side.

According to the Italian paper ‘La Reppublica’, the striker’s continuity will cost the club and the Qatari owner 435 million euros. That is an amount that is divided into three big parts to create the most expensive contract in the history of football.

The first is Mbappe’s contract renewal bonus. The player, who appeared to have reached an agreement with Real Madrid, will receive a sizable reward for making a U-turn and remaining at PSG. He will receive 100 million euros simply for agreeing to the proposal.

2. Mbappe will get 50 million euros net a year

Second, the majority of the money is spent on the player’s salary. Mbappe will receive 50 million euros net per year, for a total of 150 million over three seasons. However, due to taxes and other factors, this figure will rise to $300 million.

In addition, PSG must pay Monaco 35 million euros. Few were aware of this, but PSG and Monaco agreed when the former purchased the player from the Principality that they would pay Monaco 35 million if he stayed at PSG.

3. Kylian Mbappé’s new contract elevates him to the position of the most powerful figure at PSG

Paris Saint-Germain will pay Mbappé €250 million over three years, but he will also have a say in how the club is run. Mbappé’s decision to stay at PSG, which was a speculative situation a few months ago, marks the beginning of major changes at the club.

In addition to a reported €100 million signing bonus and a €50 million salary, Mbappé is expected to play a significant role in PSG’s overall decision-making. His influence is already having an impact on the club.

While purists will object to a player wielding such political power, Mbappé’s new status represents an intriguing footballing experiment.

Although the concessions made to Mbappé were primarily motivated by desperation. As PSG feared losing perhaps the world’s best player for free to a major rival. Player power of this magnitude could make sense in modern football under the right circumstances.

4. He is the club’s highest-paid

He is the club’s highest-paid, most valuable, and most powerful player. PSG may argue that no one is more important to their success than Mbappé.

So why not consult with him on major decisions? Despite a decade of effort, PSG’s established hierarchy has yet to become a bastion of competence, owing to constant infighting among various coaches, sporting directors, and leaders, as well as a failed transfer policy.

While the club has catered to the whims of other players, this would be a first for decision-making power.

5. He turned down a move to Real Madrid to stay at PSG

Mbappe had been heavily linked with a summer move to Real Madrid as a free agent, with GOAL revealing that personal terms had been agreed with the La Liga giants at one point, but he stunned everyone when he announced a lengthy stay in his homeland.

Mbappe has agreed to a new three-year contract with the newly crowned Ligue 1 champions. Which means he will be with the club until at least 2025.

More records will fall around him during that time, and a talented 23-year-old is expected to enter the Ballon d’Or race at some point in the near future.

6. Mbappe contract was  influenced by French President

Mbappe’s final decision was also influenced by French President Emmanuel Macron, who had spoken with the forward several times over the phone in recent months.

Macron argued that Mbappe would be better off staying in Paris because he is regarded as an icon in the city and could be in the spotlight when the Olympic Games are held there in 2024.

He also reminded the PSG star of his role as a role model for the next generation. Urging him to weigh the advantages of continuing his career in his homeland.

Mbappe’s passion for the club was also a factor. As he aspires to become their greatest-ever player and break Edinson Cavani’s all-time scoring record.

7. The new contract has made him become world’s highest-paid footballer

Kylian Mbappe has become the world’s highest-paid footballer. This is after signing a three-year deal with PSG worth nearly £1 million per week.

“I would like to announce that I have chosen to extend my contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and of course I am delighted,” Mbappe said on the pitch ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 match at home to Metz, in which he scored a hat-trick.

Real, who were willing to pay €230 million to sign the forward on Deadline Day last summer, were willing to pay Mbappe a signing-on fee of £110 million and wages of £20 million per year after tax.

Their total investment would have been approximately £300 million. However, he refused the transfer, and the contract elevated him to the world’s highest-paid footballer.

8. The contract extension was alleged to pose threat to other clubs and soccer

That is the issue with the Mbappé transaction. Every time the salaries of the superstars rise, they slowly but steadily drag everyone else’s up with them, pushing the sport’s Overton window higher and higher.

However, there will be a problem further down the food chain. Some clubs are willing to pay the higher cost of retaining talent, despite the risks involved.

Others will choose to cash out and sell, widening the gap between the aristocracy and the rest of us.

9. PSG will post a record loss of £317million for the 2021-22 season with Mbappe’s new contract

According to L’Equipe, PSG will post a record loss of £317 million for the 2021-22 season. With Mbappe’s new contract accounting for a large portion of the losses.

According to reports in France, Mbappe’s contract will cost the club £540 million over three years, with a third of that (£180 million) included in last season’s accounts.

It is also explained how, despite having a record income of £686 million for the season, Les Parisiens had to pay an £8.5 million fine to UEFA for their losses, having negotiated that down from an initial £55 million fine from European football’s governing body.

According to the negotiated terms of the agreement, the club must have a maximum deficit of £50 million in net income per year, and their wage bill must be gradually reduced so that it does not exceed 70% of their income beginning with the 2025-26 season.

10. The new contract has led to sweeping changes within the club

Mbappé’s media address following his shock signing of a new three-year contract with PSG had a presidential feel to it. With his humble smile, tailored suit, and nonchalant waves to fans outside the Parc des Princes. The newfound power could be a match for his presidential demeanor.

Mbappé’s decision to stay at PSG, which was a speculative situation a few months ago, marks the beginning of major changes at the club. The sporting director, Leonardo, has already left for the second time. The coach, Mauricio Pochettino, was widely expected to do the same and he did.

Large parts of an unwieldy squad are expected to be sold, something Leonardo struggled with, while PSG’s prolific but underutilized academy could finally take on genuine significance.
