A taste of luxury in the Czech Republic’s capital city

So you’ve already splurged on vacation. You rented a nice Airbnb, you have done some shopping, and you have decided to not skimp on any meals either. Despite Prague being a very inexpensive city to enjoy, you only get vacation a few times a year – and you’re really going for it.

You met some locals and heard about some potentially life-changing restaurants scattered throughout the city, all winning the coveted Michelin-star award. To continue this holiday of luxury, you have made a mission to frequent all the restaurants and see which ones live up to the hype. We have compiled a list of the top Michelin star restaurants in Prague.

1. La Degustation

La Degustation – By Cloudz679 [CC0]

First up, we have La Degustation. This place is exquisite – from the unique art installation that is considered to be a chandelier to the glowing wine bottle selection behind the bar, this place has it all.

The kitchen is modern, aesthetic, and produces high-quality food. The dining area has the chandeliers dimmed down to a low level, featuring only small spotlights to highlight the importance in the room – the food. Once you dine here, you’ll see that the focus is truly on the food – the tastes, the flavors, the presentation – everything.

The dishes will be served on anything from clay plates to cobblestones, giving you a unique dining experience. The young executive chef has a team of professionals working with him, perfectly executing his vision. Honing in on their craft. The food is based on a 19th-century Czech cookbook, with locally-sourced ingredients, organic vegetables from nearby farms, and features plenty of mushrooms.

There is only a set tasting menu here, with eight courses and “amuse bouche” nibbles in between, ensuring you have plenty of food so you leave satisfied.

The dishes can range from traditional Czech dishes with a modern spin, to some adventurous plates that aren’t for the faint of heart. The Signature dish is the classic beef tongue, that even non-meat-eaters will enjoy. The melt-in-your-mouth texture will make even the strictest of vegetarians reconsider their decision.

Another important aspect is the perfectly-paired Czech wines that are featured here, containing hard-to-get wines that aren’t usually available in restaurants and in store.

The atmosphere is elegant, but with a combination of rustic and warm vibes, creating both a relaxing but upscale ambiance. This high-quality food and high-quality environment warrants high prices – you won’t be paying the Prague norm here, so be on the lookout for New York City prices.

2. Field

Second on our list of impressive Michelin-starred restaurants in the capital city, we have Field. After only a year of opening, this beautiful restaurant gained a Michelin star. Talk about a new kid on the block. The kitchen pulls out all the stops, with impressive cooking techniques like dry ice, but also masters the basics exceptionally well. The sauces and the solid cooking keep the people coming back for more – and the flare added creates a trendy Instagram shot.

The Executive Chef here was the main judge on Czech Masterchef, and has taught his chefs how to make fantastic a-la-carte dishes. They offer a set menu that you can choose, to pair with great wines or juices sourced from local fruits. Or you can choose separate dishes if you don’t want to  commit to a full menu, heading here for a smaller lunch.

The interior features an open-air vibe, with plenty of light, relaxed seating, and few details, adding to the modern and minimalist interior. The dishes served here combine locally sourced ingredients with an interesting twist to the plate – like foie gras.

The dishes are sophistically-plated, and are paired with French wines that complement the flavors. For those who want a peaceful atmosphere – kids are not allowed. Take what you will from that, but just be aware before you make a lunch reservation. Although not as local as La Degustation, the inclusion of unique foreign ingredients puts a characteristic spin on this Michelin-star venue.

3. Michelin Guide and Consistent Fan-Favorite: Café Savoy

Another location which has won Michelin-acclaim, Café Savoy is an ever-popular spot in the capital city. This restaurant is as much known for its ambiance, chandelier, and influx of patrons as it is for high-quality and tasty food.

Open since 1893, this establishment features delicious coffee and cake from their own pâtisserie, classic sandwiches and fresh craft beer for lunch, or Czech/French traditional dishes for a later meal. All the dishes are carefully prepared, use fresh ingredients, and provide a beautiful atmosphere for you to enjoy your dining experience.

With a mix of wood, marble, and the bright and shining chandelier, this is a great spot to stop off for some strong coffee or afternoon tea. Try the Algerian coffee, featuring espresso with egg liqueur and whipped cream.

Michelin Guide Restaurants 2019

In addition to the two restaurants that gained a Michelin star in the city of Prague, there are various other eateries that have been recognized by the Michelin guide. Kampa Park in Mala Strana is conveniently and beautifully-located right by the Vltava River, next to the famous Charles Bridge, and features an interesting menu with fresh ingredients.

Terasa U Zlate Studne is a long-standing restaurant that opened at the beginning of the 20th century, and is still going strong today, featuring an intimate room, a stunning panoramic view on the terrace, and classic dishes that have a Mediterranean and Asian twist to the traditional flavors.

S辱’ interior is dimly-lit, in a chic hotel restaurant, and serves up pan-Asian food from the Northeast, Southeast, and Southwest.
