Top Organic Cafes and Restaurants in Rome

If theres one thing the Romans know, it’s good food. It feels as though I am exposed to new organic food spots around the city every week, as more and more people learn about organic eating.

Rome also needs to keep up with traveling trends. Tourists come to the city and look for organic food. The are not interested in subjecting their bodies to foreign toxins or pesticides that might cause them to feel sluggish while on vacation.

Here are some top organic spots in Rome to look out for when it’s time to eat!

Officina Naturale in Rome

Our first organic spot in Rome is Officina Naturale, a few minuets from the Termini Train Station, just north of Monti.

It’s Rome’s go-to for health food at the moment. The menu offers salads, sandwiches, wraps, bowls and smoothies. For the most part, they make everything with organic produce, so long as they are able to get sufficient delivered of each every day.

Officina Naturale is also widely known for their great gelato. They usually have a vegan ice cream or two on offer.

One thing to take note of is that Officina Naturale opens for service at 6am each day. If you’re staying in an Airbnb or hotel nearby, this is the perfect early start to an otherwise late-to-rise city.

The second thing you must note is that Officina Naturale don’t open for service at all one weekends. You’ll only be able to eat this organic food on weekdays. Petition to move them to open on Saturdays and Sundays? I’ll sign.

Crispy – Bio Market in Rome

The Crispy Bio Market is an organic food shop and restaurant hybrid. It’s close to the Trevi Fountain, in a neighborhood I highly recommend guided walking tours through for its beauty and history.

At Crispy everything is organic, including all of the products that are stocked around the space available for purchase. Their bakery section is also organic, which is a rarity in the Italian capital.

The cuisine in the restaurant is hard to pin down; call it heath foods with creative twists. All you need to know is that you won’t find any pizza or pasta on the menu, giving you a much needed break after no doubt stuffing your face since your Roman arrival.

Make Crispy your go-to spot when your body is crying out to you for a vitamin and mineral boost.

Ginger Sapori e Salute in Rome

About a five minutes walk from Crispy is another organic dream to add to our list. I first found Ginger whilst in search of somewhere both my fruitarian friend and I could eat together. Ginger does a generous fruit bowl as a sharing dish, filled with fresh, organic fruits from around the country.

Another spot where you won’t have to look at another pizza, though the Ginger menu does offer a few pastas. The rest of the menu is more of a health-deli vibe; salads, cold meats, sandwiches, acai bowls and brunch foods.

I particularly like Ginger Sapori because of how inclusive their menu is to vegans, gluten free and lactose free eaters. As mentioned, fruitarians in Rome can also eat quite easily here.

You can eat here vitally all day long, even late night dining is an option since they are open until midnight. My favorite time in Ginger, however, is anywhere between 10am and 1pm, before the chaos of the streets finds its way into the eatery.

Hosteria del Mercato in Rome

A traditional Italian eatery, but all organic? There had to be one. And that one is Hosteria del Mercato.

Unsurprisingly, you’ll find it right next to Crispy and Ginger. It seems this neighborhood in Rome has a strong preference for organic foods, and the cafes are slowly starting to cater to the demand.

Although they open at 9am, this is a dinner spot in my opinion. The traditional Italian dishes, like pizza, pasta, grilled salmon and tiramisu, are made to organic perfection. If you do come before lunch time you’ll eat from their pastry and fresh pressed juice menus.

The restaurant sits directly opposite the Palazzo Nuñez Torlonia. Some guided walking tours in Rome tend to overlook this tourist attraction, but I encourage everyone to at least do a walk by while in town.

Aromaticus in Rome

This was the first spot I ever ate in during my very first visit to Rome. It was situated right next to my hotel, a short walk from the Termini Train Station in which I arrived from the airport.

I remember being surprised this quirky cafe was open so late, and that the menu was entirely vegetarian, vegan and organic. What is better after a lengthy flight then a plant based burger that won’t keep you up all night just to digest.

Their organic salads, wraps and pita plates are as good as the burgers. Shall I even tempt you with a slight of dairy free cheesecake to finish things off? Organic, cruelty free eating never felt so good.

My only wish is that they’d finally ditch the plastic knives and forks. Conscious eating includes what you eat with.
