Loh Kean Yew was born on 26^th June 1997 in Penang Malaysia, the youngest of three brothers. His parents are Loh Pin Kean and Grace Gen.

Loh began playing Badminton at the age of four, at the gate of his house along with his brother and neighbor.

He trained with the Penang Badminton Association (PBA) until the age of twelve at their Badminton Academy in Ayer Ham.

Kean Yew moved away from his family in Malaysia at the age of thirteen and took a scholarship at the Singapore Sports School.

When talking to CAN Loh Kean says the first two weeks were fun for him because his parents were not around but as time moved on, he missed home and he would cry a few times.

Kean Hean his older brother added that Singapore’s culture and the environment were different from Malaysia thus they needed to adapt.

Loh finally settled down and made friends. Tan one of his friends said that when in school Yew was the happiest playing Badminton.

Loh finds purpose in inspiring younger generations and opening up conversations about the sport. He and his brother decided to become Singapore Citizens after so many years of training.

Loh鈥檚 most memorable achievement came in 2019 when he defeated Chinese great Lin Dan, to claim the US $150,000 Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters in Bangkok.

Dan retired at the age of 37, he is known as one of the greatest players in the sport. He is a two-time Olympic Champion and five-time World Champion.

His Instagram followers doubled to more than one hundred and ten thousand after his win. These numbers increase day in and out after the World Championships.
