Founded in 1985 in New Zealand; Skyline Luge is a gravity fuelled ride using a three wheeled cart. This is a fun-filled family activity that’s safe for riders of all ages and experience levels.

The luge allows the driver to have full control in that the rider controls the speed by pushing a pair of handlebars back and forth. The ride goes downhill, relying on gravitational pull to move as the driver controls the steering wheel and braking system built-in the carts.

What could be better than sand and sun, waves crashing against the shore, lush gardens with carefully preserved heritage trees and buildings, luxurious hotels and spas, and a world-class amusement park just down the road?

Sentosa Island has all of this and more. Sentosa Island has something for everyone, whether you want to go down a water slide at breakneck speed at Adventure Cove Waterpark, explore the 19th century Fort Siloso, or even go indoor skydiving at iFly Singapore.

1.There are 7 different locations around the world

Since opening in Queenstown in the year 1967, they have established 7 tracks around the world. Each built uniquely to their locations and scenery. These include Skyline Rotorua which was founded in 1985, Skyline Tremblant (2003), Skyline Luge Sentosa (2005), Skyline Luge Calgary (2013), Skyline Luge Tongyeong (2017) and Skyline Luge Busan (2021).

2.Luge tracks are designed in a special way

The purpose built luge tracks are designed with signature twists, dippers and tunnels for the carts to provide the ultimate gravity-fuelled fun.

How long does it take for the rides to complete?

Each Luge track should take less than five minutes to complete. The Skyline Luge website estimates that one Luge and one Skyride will take 15-20 minutes to complete, but this can take longer during school holidays and peak hours.

It may take two hours to complete four Luge rides and four Skyrides during a school holiday on a weekday, that is plus the time it took us to queue. The queues really move fast quick and you may only wait for about 5-10 minutes at the Luge and Skyride queues.

3.The age and height limit should always be followed by visitors

To ride the Luge alone, you must be at least 6 years old and taller than 110cm. To ride the Skyride, you must be 85cm tall to ride with an adult and 135cm tall to ride alone.

They use a unique Luge technology. All components of the tracks and karts are designed and manufactured in Rotorua and then shipped around the world to other Luge locations.

After a fun filled day at the luge in Queenstown; You can journey into the southern night sky with a gondola ride and gaze at the stars from an unbelievably clear view of the night sky.

Experience Lake Rotorua with dual zip lines that allows you to race your friends and family at speeds of up to 60km/h. Soar meters from the treetops and enjoy the thrill of flying as you compete with your friends or family.

You may bring your helmet if you wish, as long as it is not a full-face helmet and has a strap for securing your helmet in place. However, if you do not use their provided helmet, they will be unable to identify you if you wish to purchase photos taken during the ride because you must scan your helmet to locate your photos.

6.Pictures while on the ride are definitely allowed, get your camera out!

I believe this is something that both children and adults will enjoy; however, keep in mind the height and age restrictions. My children, ages 9 and 11, have no trouble navigating the Luge, as have the children I’ve seen who are younger.

The Luge is simple to manoeuvre; simply push the driving forward to ‘GO’ to move forward and pull back to break. It’s not very scary for kids, too, as they’re able to control the speed of the Luge and if you’re slow, the faster drivers will simply overtake you.

You can give the gift of fun. If you’re looking for something unique and fun, you can give the gift of adventure to your loved ones by purchasing the gift pass for them.
