Throughout its history Taiwan has experienced periods of economic boom and bust, Taiwan holds an important position in the global economy.

Taiwan is ranked 3rd among 39 countries in the Asia–Pacific region, and its overall score is above the regional and world averages.

Taiwan is one of the few countries in the world to have experienced continuous economic growth during the past five years.

It is a top player in the world’s information and communication technology industry as well as a major supplier of goods across the industrial spectrum.

1. Zhang Congyuan

Zhang Congyuan is a Taiwanese billionaire and businessman, the founder of Huali Industrial. Huali supplies dozens of brands including Nike, Puma, UGG, and Vans.

The company produces more than 180 million pairs of shoes in a year and has maintained stable capacity and shipments amidst the pandemic.

He started his first shoe business on a pig farm, the 74-year-old is also the richest self-made newcomer on this year’s Forbes’ World Billionaires list.

For all of his success, he maintains a low profile, rarely giving interviews or appearing at public events. Taiwanese media calls him the mysterious shoe king.

One of his famous quotes to get to the bottom of it, it’s only about whether you have the determination to do better than others.

2. Daniel M. Tsai

Daniel M. Tsai is chairman of the Fubon Group. Since its founding in 1961, the Fubon Group has offered the most comprehensive financial services in Taiwan.

Daniel Tsai is a Taiwanese billionaire businessman. He and his brother Richard Tsai run Fubon Financial Holding Co., founded by their father Tsai Wan-Tsai.

Mr. Tsai is also chairman of Taiwan Mobile, a leading provider of mobile communications, cable TV, fixed broadband services, and digital content in Taiwan.

The brothers together are ranked third in Forbes Taiwan’s Richest 2021, with a net worth of US$7.9 billion.

Along with his wife, Tsai is involved in numerous philanthropic endeavors, including efforts to help youngsters understand and use new media.

3. Lin Shu Hong

Suhon Lin is a Taiwanese billionaire and co-founder of the Chang Chun Group, a petrochemical company.

He co-founded the business in 1949 with classmates Tseng Shin-Yi and M.K. Liao, with only $100. He’s the only surviving member of the trio.

The Chang Chun Group has grown into one of the biggest petrochemical companies in Asia and has plants throughout Southeast Asia as well as Taiwan and the Chinese mainland.

The award of an honorary doctorate to Changchun Petrochemical Group president Lin Shu-Hong and vice president Tseng Shin-Yi.

This award was in recognition of the importance of Taiwan’s petrochemical industry contribution.

4. Terry Gou

Terry Gou is a Taiwanese business giant who founded the company Foxconn. Gou is the founder and chairman of Hon Hai later known as Foxconn.

He is popularly known as the ‘Donald Trump of Taiwan’, due to his striking similarities with the current US President.

Both have immense wealth, and influential business empires, are married more than once and have young wives.

With a net worth of $10.6 billion, Gou is the third richest person in Taiwan and the first in terms of popularity surpassing even the current Taiwanese president.

In 1980, Gou got his first big success when he won a contract to produce connectors between Atari’s console and the joystick.

5. Barry Lam

Barry Lam is the chairman of Quanta Computer, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of notebook computers and other electronics.

Barry continues to play an active role in directing the company’s strategies and visions as well as R&D initiatives.

Barry was recognized as one of the top ten Most Admired Entrepreneurs in the Most Admired Company survey by Common Wealth magazine in 2015.

He is the founder and chairman of the Quanta Cultural and Educational Foundation, which promotes culture, art, and education in Taiwan.

6. Samuel Yin

One of Taiwan’s richest, Samuel Yin is the grandson of the founder of the Ruentex Group, a billion-dollar industrial conglomerate with operations in financial services, construction, medical services, and retail.

Yin’s greatest dream was to set up an international award akin to the Nobel Prize. In 2012, he established the Tang Prize, funded by US$100 million of his own money.

The mission of the prize is to promote research that is beneficial to the world and humankind, promote Chinese culture, and make the world a better place.

Yin is married to Wang Chi-Fan and has one son and one daughter; He is an experienced offshore sailor and commissioned the construction of two yachts.

7. Pierre Chen

Pierre Chen, among the richest people in Taiwan, made his fortune through his electronics behemoth Yageo Corporation, which he founded in 1977.

The home of Taiwan electronics billionaire Pierre Chen faces the breadth of the northern Taiwan basin that takes in the sprawling city of Taipei.

The Yageo Foundation Collection includes the personal art collection of Pierre Chen who has been avidly building the collection for over two decades.

Guided by the founder’s passion and vision, the focus of the Yageo Foundation Collection lies in masterpieces from the Modern and Post-War periods.

8. Rudy Ma

Rudy Ma is a Taiwanese billionaire. In 1961, he founded Yuanta Financial, a financial services company based in Taiwan, with its headquarters in Taipei.

In 2014, Rudy Ma, married and a father of two, was found guilty in a breach of trust case and sentenced to 7 ½ years in jail.

His younger son Wei Chen sits on the board of the company, the Ma family holds one of Taiwan’s top art collections.

9. Kenneth Yen

Kenneth Yen was a Taiwanese entrepreneur who was listed as one of the richest people in the world.

Yen chaired China Motor and Yulon Motor, two of Taiwan’s largest automakers, until his death in December 2018.

Yen is estimated to have a net worth of US$540 million, according to Forbes magazine, Yen is the adopted son of Yulon Group founder Yen Ching-ling.

Yulon Group chairman, multi-millionaire Kenneth Yen, died at Taipei Veterans General Hospital he was battling cancer.

10. Luo Jye

Luo Jye founded Cheng Shin Rubber in 1967 as a tire supplier to Taiwan’s then-expanding bicycle industry.

Today the company, known as CST, is run by his son Lo Tsai-Jen. It is one of the world’s largest makers of tires and tubes for motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, cars, bicycles, forklifts, and lawn equipment.

He is married with four children, Luo died on 15 March 2019, and at the age of 94, the Taiwanese businessman had a net worth of $4.5 billion.
