Best known for her lead role in the 2001 television series Meteor Garden, Barbie Hsu is one of the most popular figures in the Taiwanese entertainment industry.

Born on 6 October 1976 in Taipei, Taiwan, She is the daughter of Huang Chunmei and Hsu Chien.  Hsu is the second born in a family of three sisters, her eldest sister is Hsu Si-hsien, and the youngest is Dee Hsu.

Barbie Hsu is an actress, singer, and television talk show host. She is married and is a mother of two children.

1. She was a Member of the Pop Duo

From 1994 to 2001, Barbie Hsu was a member of the pop duo called SOS whose name was changed to ASOS for legal reasons.

ASOS pop duo was formed by Barbie Hsu and her younger sister Dee Hsu, its name stood for “sisters of Shu” which later changed to stand for “Adult sisters of Shu”

2. She Starred in a Television Series

Barbie Hsu shot to fame in 2001, after she starred in the sensational Taiwanese television series Meteor Garden.

The drama starred Barbie Hsu, Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu, and Vanness Wu. The drama was the first live-action adaptation of the Japanese Shojo manga series by Yoko Kamio.

It was produced by Comic Ritz International Production with Angie Chai as producer and directed by Tsai Yueh-Hsun. It was later followed by a sequel in 2002.

3. Barbie Hsu Starred in the Chinese Horror Movie

Barbie Hsu debuted her career as a movie actress in the 2005 Chinese horror movie
“The Ghost Inside”. The movie starred Liu Ye, Gong Beidi, and Barbie Hsu.

The film was directed by Herman Yau and produced by the China Film Group. At the time of its filming, it was the most expensive horror film ever made in China at US$600,000.

It tells the story of a young mother, Lin Xiaoyue, who flees her abusive husband, taking their young daughter with her. She rents an apartment in a new apartment block but soon regrets the move as the apartment is haunted.

4. She co- hosted Television Variety Show with her Sister

Barbie Hsu has hosted or co-hosted a number of popular Taiwanese television variety shows.

She made her first appearance as the co-host of the “ Guess Guess Guess” variety show in 1998. She co-hosted the show for two years together with her younger sister, Dee Hsu.

The show was broadcasted weekly on free-to-air on China Television (CTV), Singapore’s Media Channel u, and 8TV of Malaysia. It ended in 2012 after 16 years of its airing.

Barbie Hsu married her first husband a Chinese entrepreneur, Wang Xiaofei, on 16 November 2010, in a civil ceremony in Beijing. The couple later held their wedding banquet on Hainan Island on 22 March 2011.

The couple has two children, Wang Hsi-Yueh, born 24 April 2014, and Wang Hsi-lin, born 14 May 2016.

Hsu and Wang officially announced their divorce On 22 November 2021, after 11 years of their marriage.

On 8 March 2022, Hsu announced on her social media pages that she had married South Korean singer Koo Jun-yup. She also reposted her husband’s announcement of the marriage on his Facebook page.

Hsu and Koo’s relationship dates back to August 1997 when she first saw Koo performing on stage. She developed a crush on him and the pair fell in love when they met again in 1998.

They rekindled their romance after her divorce and they registered their marriage in Taiwan on 28 March 2022. The couple officially tied the knot on 8 February 2022, the day they registered their marriage in South Korea.

7. Barbie Hsu Won the Best Actress Award

Throughout her career, Hsu has been nominated for various acting awards. In 2001 she was nominated for the 36^th golden bell Award for the best leading actress in a TV series “Meteor Garden”.

In 2008 she was nominated for best actress in the 285h Hong Kong film awards and the 145h Shanghai Television festival respectively. Hsu won the best actress award at the 4th Macau international movie festival in 2012.

Barbie Hsu’s younger sister Dee Hsu is a popular actress and a television host in Taiwan. She partnered with her elder sister to form the ASOS pop duo in 1994.

Dee is well known for her quick-witted caustic humor and for co-hosting a variety show with Kevin Tsai from 2004 to 2015. The pair were awarded Best Host in a Variety Programme at the 40th Golden Bell Awards in 2005.

She also co-hosted a television variety show “Guess Guess Guess” with  Barbie Hsu from 1998 to 2000.

Apart from being a popular actress and a TV host in Taiwan, Hsu remains active in other works, such as modeling and endorsement of famous brands.

In 2005 she signed a contract to endorse a top Swiss watches maker the Tissot. She renewed her contract in 2008, and she has been their brand face since.

Tissot is a Swiss luxury watchmaker company that was founded by Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son in 1853.

Barbie Hsu has been an animal lover and protector since her childhood. She believes that animals have the right to live just like humans.
