10 Authentic Markets and Fairs you should visit in Lisbon

Portugal has a lot of fairs with of the most distinct types. From food to clothes passing through handicraft, there are many fairs in Portugal to explore. Most of the main fairs happen during spring and summer, so if you like these kinds of events my advice is for you to go there.

The Portuguese actually love to go to fairs because it鈥檚 there that we find the best deals for the products. For example, markets with fresh food typically pay off because people try to find the best quality goods. Once these goods are sold by the direct producers, the price is cheaper than the price at the supermarket.

The fairs I’m presenting you are just some of the hundreds that occur all over Portugal. From the bottom to the top there will be available for selling the products of the region and some other products that everyone needs.

1. Feira da Ladra

This fair is a classic one in Lisbon.

You cannot go to Lisbon without going to this emblematic street market. People sell anything they want. You can buy books, any kind of antiquities, collectables, old dolls, old and new clothes and many other things.

This is an eclectic and absurd street market because you can find anything there. Usually, if you want to find a specific thing on the market, you鈥檒l need to watch carefully the whole fair from the bottom to the top.

Feira da Ladra is at Campo de Santa Clara and you can go by foot from Santa Apol贸nia metro and train station. It takes about 5 minutes to walk up to the market. If you want to rest a little from the fair, you can go to Foccacia in Giro.

It’s a cafe which sells the most delicious focaccias with the most variable and delicious fillings. Depending on the filling, the price of your focaccia can range between 5 and 8鈧�. This market is always good to go to because you can watch the most important parts of Lisbon from there.

Whenever I go to Feira da Ladra, I take the rest of the day to explore all the streets from S茫o Vicente until Martim Moniz. You can visit the national pantheon and some churches just like Igreja de S茫o Vicente de Fora. After this, you can go to some viewpoints like Miradouro da gra莽a, Miradouro de Santa Luzia and Miradouro da Senhora do Monte.

Then you can visit S茫o Jorge Castle and its viewpoint. If you go to Baixa-Chiado, you can pass by S茅 de Lisboa and visit it.

2. Feira do Rel贸gio

Another classic and popular market in Lisbon is Feira do Rel贸gio. It鈥檚 different from Feira da Ladra because it doesn鈥檛 have second-hand items. This one has clothes and fresh food like vegetables and fruit. In the past years, it used to be a fair with sellers from a gypsy ethnicity. Nowadays it has multicultural sellers.

Typically, this fair is crowded with people who are looking for the cheapest goods. Sellers try to attract potential buyers with the quality and the prices of their products and goods.

If you want to occupy the rest of your day, my advice is to take the red metro line and go to Oriente. Parque das Na莽玫es is a place full of things to entertain.

You can go to the Lisbon oceanarium, travel through the cable car or even go to the Ci锚ncia Viva centre! Oriente has the Tagus river on its right side with a pretty view to admire.

3. Mercados no Jardim do Pr铆ncipe real

At Pr铆ncipe Real, some little fairs occur all week long.

The little Pr铆ncipe Real garden fills up with artisans and producers. These sell their vegetables and their fruit.

THE BIOLOGICAL MARKET STARTS FROM 10 AM TO 2PM EVERY WEEKEND.

Every last Saturday and Monday of the month, there is this fair with antiquities, old goods and crafts.

There鈥檚 also Portugal Real which is a little fair of food and regional delicacies.

IT OCCURS ON THE SECOND MONDAY AND ON THE SECOND SATURDAY OF THE MONTH FROM 10 AM TO 6 PM.

The last fair is called Sabor de Perdi莽茫o which has natural products and crafts for selling.

4. Anjos70/ Feira das Almas

Anjos70 is a fair with alternative products and distinguished artisans. Every first weekend of each month this fair occurs in Anjos and it grows over time.

There are dozens of sellers of old and new clothes, decoration, vintage fashion, artwork and independent work. Sometimes, there are concerts or any other shows, so stay tuned to those events! On their website, there is the Schedule for each month.
If you come to the Anjos area, take an hour to walk on its streets. It has little shops with different and alternative products.

5. Feira Semanal de Barcelos

Barcelos is located a tone of the most emblematic districts of Portugal which is Braga. It is considered the capital of handcraft. At this city, there is this weekly fair called 鈥淔eira semanal de Barcelos鈥�.

Every Thursdays the city of Barcelos fills up with the most variable and distinguished products. There is diversity on the crafts of each artisan and producer.

From pottery, embroidery, weaving and basketry, to iron forge. There are more people on the north of Portugal who know more about handcraft and the production of basic need items.

The majority of the farmers around Barcelos bring their goods to sell at this fair. The fresh vegetables and all the other fresh products people bring to sell at the cheapest price make up for going to the fair. These people who work in farms, make their best effort and wake up really early in the morning for it. So, usually, their products have the best quality for its price.

For all these reasons, the Barcelos fair is one of the most turistic attractions of the county.

6. Feira de Espinho

Feira de Espinho it鈥檚 one of the biggest weekly fairs in Portugal. I went there once when I was younger, and I remember feeling that the avenue had no end of how huge the fair was!

Every Monday this fair occupies a full avenue with the most variable products and goods! From clothes to food and housekeeping products, there are many options for you to choose from.

Fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, meat and fish, bedsheets, cloth, house decorations and many more products and goods are sold. People from Aveiro prefer going to this fair to buy their fresh goods than going to the supermarket.

This fair is known by everyone for its quality goods. you can search for anything you want, always having in mind the quality and the price of the goods.

7. Feira dos Alfarrabistas

This one is a second-hand book fair.

If you鈥檙e looking for an old book that it鈥檚 no longer produced, try to find at this fair.

For 1 or 2鈧� you can buy many books at this 鈥渂ook dealers fair鈥�. It doesn鈥檛 take too long to watch this fair, so you can always explore a bit more of Chiado!

My advice if you are hungry, is to go to Pop Cereal Caf茅! They make the sweetest milkshakes and the best bowls of cereal.
A milkshake is around 4鈧� and the bowl of cereals as well. The decoration of the caf茅 is original and has a cool environment for everyone.

8. Lx Market

Every Sunday at there is LxMarket which is a market full of alternative products.

Usually, these products are in second hand, or they are handcrafted and mostly clothes are sold at this market. There are also a lot of restaurants!
Therefore, you don鈥檛 need to worry to rush to Lisbon for lunching.
is one restaurant with the best view there in Alc芒ntara to the Tagus river and to the 25th April bridge. Two people can lunch from 20鈧� to 30鈧� together depending on the dishes you choose.

For the sushi lovers, there鈥檚 鈥淪ushi factory鈥� where you can lunch and have dinner for two people between 20鈧� and 40鈧�.

Taberna 1300 is another restaurant but a particularity. The food is typically Portuguese and made with fresh Portuguese ingredients. The average for the menu is 35鈧�.

9. Feira Medieval em Santa Maria da Feira

The medieval fair at Santa Maria da Feira it鈥檚 the greatest medieval fair in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the best in Europe.

It occurs every year during a week in the summer. This city is dressed up especially for this huge event. Not only the city gets the image of the medieval times but also, people dress in clothes that give us the image of those times.

With the environment of the middle ages, people come to this fair and learn a little more about those ages. There is also a little market where you can buy products handcrafted and typical food from the region. One big attraction of the fair is the Castle located at the fair (called Castelo da Feira).

A couple of years ago I went to this medieval fair and I loved to watch the animals that they had there like eagles, hawks, owls, donkeys, pigs and many more. I also loved to eat a typical cake from Aveiro, the region of Feira, which is called P茫o de L贸 de Ovar. It鈥檚 a cake filled with sweet egg. This egg dessert in Portugal is used in many traditional sweets and cakes.

10. FIL – Feira Internacional de Lisboa

Feira Internacional de Lisboa has a different charisma. It has not only with typical handcrafted Portuguese items but also has tuns handicraft from all over the world.

FIL happens once a year at Parque das Na莽玫es for a week, usually on the last week of June or the first of July. It鈥檚 composed of 3 big pavilions, one for Portuguese food, one for Portuguese handcraft and the last one for International handcraft.

It is tradition for me to go every year to this fair. It has always interesting products that I can鈥檛 find anywhere else in Portugal. My family and I always eat there at the 鈥渇ood pavilion鈥�. This one has traditional Portuguese music you can listen to and the best sandwiches. These sandwiches can be filled with ham, delicious cheese and other stuffing which you can accompany by wine or beer.
