The Broken Arrow Murders were shocking killings that took place in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on July 22, 2015. The perpetrators were two teenage boys. These episodes included many homicides, which shocked and alarmed the neighborhood. The grisly facts surrounding the murders expose the tragic and evil nature of these crimes. The boys killed their five family members in cold blood. The victims were the parents and three children. One of the children survived with severe injuries while one survived unharmed. An autopsy revealed that multiple sharp-force injuries were the cause of death in most cases. It was discovered through autopsies that the deceased passed away between the late hours of July 22 and the early hours of July 23.

1. Police were Allerted by a 12-year-old Boy

On July 22, 2015, police received a call at around 11.30 pm. The call was made by Daniel Bever. He alerted the police that one of his brothers is attacking the family. Screaming, commotion, and a man’s voice could be heard in the distance before the connection broke. Using the number, dispatchers were able to find the address. They sent officers to the location after trying in vain to reach the father, David Bever.

2. Police Found Five Family Members Killed

Blood was all over the house’s porch when the police arrived. After pounding on the door and hearing a feeble voice pleading for help, they forced their way inside the house and found Crystal Bever, a 13-year-old girl, bleeding profusely from several stab wounds. Daniel Bever and the other victims, who were all already dead, were found by the police. One of the murderous brothers was thought to have used the pretense of being attacked to draw the victims out of hiding.

3. The Parents and the Three Children were all Stabbed to Death

Three kids and both parents were stabbed to death. At the scene, safety equipment as well as knives, hatchets, and other bladed weapons were discovered. According to law enforcement sources, at least some of the weapons discovered were used in the killings.

The Father, David Bever, 54, was stabbed at least 28 times in the stomach, face, neck, left arm, and hand before he died. Christopher Bever, 6, died from 21 stab wounds to the lower leg, back, shoulder, and chest, while Daniel Bever, 12, died from 21 stab wounds to the back, shoulder, and chest. Moreover, Victoria Bever, 5, died after suffering 23 stab wounds to her upper arm, chest, back, and both sides of her neck.

4. Two Sisters Survived the Savage Killings

Despite escaping the savage killings, Crystal’s wounds left her in severe condition. She claimed that two of her brothers took her into a bedroom, slashed her throat, and stabbed her in the stomach and arms before committing the familicide. Her status was described as critical but stable after surgery at a local hospital. Moreover, two-year-old Autumn Bever was also discovered to be alive and unhurt. State custody was granted to the surviving kids.

5. The Two Suspects Fled the Scene through the Back Door of the House

When the police came, the two suspects were already on the run, entering the forested area behind the house through the back door of the house. They were soon caught using a K9 unit, and they were taken into custody without any problems.

Robert Bever was 18 and his brother Michael Bever was 16 when they committed the killings. Robert is the oldest son of David and April Bever. At the moment of his arrest, Robert was carrying a knife.

6. A Desire of Fame Drove the Boys into the Murder

Robert admitted to killing the family. He asserted that he and his brother had long-term plans to carry out a shooting rampage outside the home in an effort to equal or even top the 1999 Columbine High School massacre.

The brothers intended to sever their family members’ bodies, put the pieces in storage containers, and hide the containers in the attic of their house. In addition, he claimed that they intended to steal the family automobile, kill five random individuals at various locations, and finally accumulate a corpse total of at least fifty individuals. A police officer who spoke with Robert said that he loved serial killers, intended to commit his crimes outside of Oklahoma, and aimed to kill at least 500 people.

7. David Bever Abused his children physically and verbally

According to reports, the family lived in secrecy that when the medical examiner published the names of the entire family, some of the neighbors learned them for the first time. Additionally, neighbors noted Robert and Michael’s weird and unnerving behavior.

According to Crystal’s evidence, defense counsel claimed that David Bever physically and verbally abused his kids. Robert alleged that his parents were violent toward him and his siblings. He asserted that his parents would often talk about the people they detested and would explain the biblical Armageddon as a form of revenge for all they detested about the world.

8. The Brothers Planned to Make Two Videos of the Family Bodies

One of the brothers said out of the blue that the killings plans were kept on a flash drive inside the house. Later, during a second search of the house, investigators were able to recover this flash drive. Additionally, investigators found computer equipment and security cameras. Later, it was discovered that the brothers intended to create two tapes, one of which would feature their family members’ bodies and be shown to investigators and prosecutors, and the other of which would not feature any bodies but could be shared online.

9. Authorities declared that Michael Bever Would face Adult charges

Authorities said that Michael Bever would be charged as an adult. However, since Michael Bever was a minor when the family murder occurred, the Tulsa County District Attorney said he would not get the death penalty.

The defense attorney for Michael Bever argued against the constitutionality of the decision to charge his client as an adult, claiming that doing so would result in his client’s death in jail and would be equivalent to the death penalty, April 16, 2018

10. Using a bed sheet as a hook, Robert Bever attempted suicide

In exchange for his guilty pleas to all charges, Robert Bever was given a life sentence without the chance of parole. However, Robert Bever reportedly tried to commit suicide by hanging himself with a bed sheet on July 6, 2016.

A jail officer found the suicide attempt while conducting a normal security check, according to Casey Roebuck, a spokesperson for the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. He was brought down by medical personnel, who examined him and found no injuries. After that, he was put on suicide watch.

The deaths have been dubbed the worst single criminal incident in Broken Arrow history by authorities. In addition to one accusation of assault and battery with intent to kill, the brothers were accused of five charges of first-degree murder.
