10 Most Popular Songs From Top Gun Maverick

In 2022, the release of Top Gun: Maverick took the world by storm. It was a long-awaited movie as it was a sequel to 1986’s Top Gun which was equally a really good movie. Flash forward to 2022, the story of Maverick, a naval aviator, continues. In the film, Maverick is confronted by his past while training a group of younger top gun graduates, including the son of his best friend who died in the line of duty. The story of how he died is well explained in the 1986 Top Gun. In fact, it is the whole reason Maverick becomes the person he is in the film. Apart from the amazing plot, this film brings new soundtracks in town to full perfection. Most part of the film is overlaid by sounds composed by Harold Faltermeyer who is actually the person that composed ‘Top Gun Anthem’ with the help of Hans Zimmer and Lady Gaga. However, the few pop songs that are there really helped in setting the right mood for Maverick’s story that continues in this film. Where he learns to let go of the past and finally move on. So what are some of the popular songs from Top Gun Maverick? Here is a list.

1. Danger Zone- Kenny Loggins

.

Released in 1986, Top Gun: Maverick managed to bring it alive. It has that typical funk and retro genre that every 80s song would adopt. That is what makes it beautiful and addictive. In the film, this song is played in one scene. In the first Top Gun movie, however, it was played multiple times and that is why it became very popular from its time of release throughout the 90s. In Top Gun: Maverick, ‘Danger Zone’ plays as Maverick is returning to Top Gun school and also when the Navy fighter jets are landing on an aircraft carrier. A pretty fitting song for those scenes. After allZoned the missions they are involved in lead them to danger zones.

2. Great Balls- Jerry Lee Lewis

.

This classic released in 1957 is a masterpiece. It has that twister dance vibe to it and Jerry managed to do a very good job with it given how talented he was with the piano. In the movie, this classic masterpiece is played and sang by Miles Teller, who plays the role of while in a bar surrounded by other pilots. Rooster’s version is also included in the list of official soundtracks for Top Gun: Maverick. This is in an attempt to make reference to the first Top Gun scene where Rooster’s dad and Maverick’s wingman, Goose play the same song in a restaurant during a double date.

3. I Ain’t Worried- One Republic

.

Released in 2022, this fun song by One Republic gives the movie a playful edge. It plays during a beach football game scene. Maverick pouts on the song and his Top Gun students get to play against one another. Again, the scene pays homage to the original Top0 Gun where there’s also a volleyball scene and the students play against one another.

4. Hold My Hand- Lady Gaga

.

This song by Lady Gaga released in 2022 is simply beautiful leave alone sentimental. Its heavy and deep message just warps up what really Top Gun is all about and gives the audience an understanding of the emotional turmoil Maverick has been dealing with over the years. The song has been subdivided and little parts of it are included throughout the whole movie. However, the full force and depth of the song are heard when Maverick has successfully completed his mission of training his students and returns safely to his love interest, Penny, played by Jennifer Connelly. The high note of the song that Lady Gaga performed very well wraps up the movie and presents and leaves Maverick’s story on a high note.

5. Top Gun Anthem- Harold Faltermeyer

.

Released in 1986, this song was first adopted in the original Top Gun and managed to leave quite a mark. In Top Gun Maverick, you can hear it quite well at the end of the movie. It has quite a euphoric vibe that just manages to evoke a nostalgic feeling. It could be why it has never grown old. The tune also managed to make Maverick seem so cool and forbiddable.

6. Let’s Dance- David Bowie

.

This song was performed and released by David Bowie in 1983. It is quite a funk and fun song that makes you want to put on your dancing shoes and just have a good time. In the movie, it plays on when Maverick arrives at ‘Penny’s bar.’ Given how also Maverick has romantic interests in Penny, the song in a way warps up the feelings involved. Kind of like “Let’s just dance and have a good time.”

Released in 1971, this song also gives the movie a playful edge. It plays when Top Gun students are training in their jets and having a good time. The song makes the whole thing seem so cool and easy. It kind of makes you want to go and enroll at an aviation school and become an airforce pilot yourself.

8. Slow Ride- Foghat

.

This masterpiece was released in 1975 and Foghat did a good job in performing it. In the movie, it plays as a background tune in the bar scene when Rooster walks in and starts playing pool. It is a typical oldie song that nonetheless spices up the movie and doesn’t allow us to forget how good the original was in the first place.

9. Won’t Get Fooled Again- The Who

.

This song was released in 1971 also and it is a masterpiece in its own right. The song plays occasionally in the movie especially when the jets are being introduced. The scenes are honestly so cool and Maverick manages to look so great. Even his students can’t help but admire him in awe especially when he hops in one of the jets when trying to show his students that it is indeed doable and they don’t have to worry too much.

10. Tramp- Otis Redding & Carla Thomas

.

Released in 1967, this is another masterpiece adopted in Top Gun: Maverick that just blows your mind. Although it is not played a lot in the movie, you can clearly hear it play in the background at the bar scene. When Penny smiles at Maverick as he is seated at the bar. It gives the movie that playful and at the same time romantic edge that makes the whole movie quite interesting.

Top Gun: Maverick is for sure an iconic movie. The original one was equally good and set the bar quite high. It was therefore amazing to see this one living up to the hype and delivering.
