10 of the Most Famous American Scientists

The United States of America is one of the most developed countries in the world. Since they gained their independence from Great Britain, they have been adjusting to different fields every day.

The country is famous for well-developed fields in science and technology, including the great NASA. These developments have been carried out by talented and well-educated scientists of the country.

Besides, United States has some remarkable improvements made in these fields. These include Agriculture, whereby, there was introduction of alternate crops.

Moreover, engineering like the designing of a jogging robot, computer technology like the Apple computer software, and many more were the worked of United States Scientists and inventors.

Other than these, other scientists played great roles in contributing to astronomy and planetary science

However, due to the constant need for commitment in scientific development. Most of the scientists have had a problem with the other ends of life like relationships and marriage.

In addition, it seems definite that most scientists, more so men, have married more than one wife in their lifetime.

The incredible actions taken by these scientists and the work they did has contributed a lot in bringing the United States to its currents position.

Their input has helped build a strong economy, infrastructure, and other notable improvements.

1. Neil deGrasse Tyson

He was born on the 5th of October, 1958 in Manhattan New York, United States. He is a famous scientist in astrophysicist, planetary science, author, and science communicator.

Some  of the institutions he graduated from include Colombia University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Harvard University.

Of importance to note is that he is married to Alice Young since 1988. Together, they have children namely Travis and Miranda Tyson.

Not only was he an astrophysicist, but he was among the scientists who discovered and contributed to Pluto being included in the planets as the 9th planet.

Likewise, he is famous for popularizing science with his books such as The Pluto Files and his frequent appearance on television as a guest for a talk show.

This great man hosted scientific TV shows like NOVA ScienceNow, Cosmos: A Space Odyssey, and Star Talk.

Carl Sagan was born on the 9th of November, 1934 in Brooklyn New York, United States. He was an American Astronomer, planet scientist, cosmologist, astrophysicist, astrobiologist, author, and science communicator.

Unlike other scientists, he was married to three wives, Lynn Margulis, Linda Salzman Sagan, and the most current Ann Druyan. He has children namely; Sasha Sagan, Nick Sagan, Samuel Sagan, Dorion Sagan, and Jeremy Sagan.

The most incredible of his contributions included popularizing astronomy to the public. He also wrote very many scientific papers and authored several books about astronomy and natural science.

These resulted in him being referred to as the astronomer for the people.

He died on the 20th of December, 1996 in Arnold Library Seattle, United States.

3. Richard Phillips Feynman

Richard Feynman was born on the 11th of May, 1918 in New York, United States. He was an American theoretical physicist. He was married to several wives and had four children.

He is famous for his work under the theory of quantum electrodynamics, which described how light interacts with matter and how charged particles interact with each other.

For this, he received a share of the 1965 Nobel Prize for Physics, which he shared with Julian Schwinger and Richard P. Feynman.

Other than Quantum electrodynamics, he was known for his work in the integral formation path of quantum mechanics, the physics of the superfluidity of supercooled liquid helium, and work in particle physics for which he proposed the parton model.

He died on the 15th of February, 1988 in Los Angeles California, United States.

4. Steve Gary Wozniak

Steve Wozniak was born on the 11th of August, 1950 in San Jose California, United States. He is an American electronics engineer, computer programmer, philanthropist, and technology entrepreneur.

He was married to Alice Robertson, Candice Clark, Suzanne Mulkern, and is currently married to Janet Hill. He children by the name; Jesse John Wozniak, Sara Nadine Wozniak, and Stephen Gary Wozniak Jr.

Steve was famous for his larger-than-life escapades around campus in Berkeley. He is currently famous for designing the Apple Computer with help of Steve Jobs where the duo is among the most well-known revolutionaries of the computing age.

5. John Forbes Nash Jr.

John Forbes was born on the 13th of June, 1928 in Bluefield West Virginia, United States. He was an American mathematician who made fundamental contributions to game theory, differential geometry, and the study of partial differential equations.

He was married to Alicia Nash for two separate times and had two children namely; John Charles Martin Nash and John David Stier.

He is famous for his discovery of the non-cooperative equilibria, now known as Nash Equilibria. He was also famous for Nash Embedding Theorems, Nash Function, Nash-Moser theorem, and Hilbert’s nineteenth problem.

Nash was awarded a Nobel Prize for Economics for his landmark work, first begun in the 1950s on the mathematics of game theory. He and his wife died in a car accident along New Jersey Turnpike, on the 23rd of May, 2015.

6. George Washington Carver

George was born in 1864 in diamond Missouri. He was a great agricultural scientist and inventor who mostly dealt with agricultural products.

Washington Carvers is famous for he came up with alternate crops to cotton and also helping develop soil depletion prevention methods. George was the most prominent black scientist of the 20th century.

This is the person behind the inventions of more than 300 peanut products from various sources, 118 products from sweet potatoes, and also developed a type of gasoline.

In 1923, he was awarded the Spingarn medal. Some of George’s inspiring facts are; he valued education, he would not quit under any circumstances and his determinations paid. He died in the Alabama United States on the 5th of January, 1943 and his body was laid at Tuskegee University

7. J. Robert Oppenheimer

The date of his birth is 22nd of April, 1904 in New York, United States. He was an American theoretical physicist and a physics professor at the University of California in Berkeley. He was married to Katherine Vissering Oppenheimer and had two children; Peter Oppenheimer and Katherine Oppenheimer.

Moreover, he is famous for being the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project and being responsible for the research and design of an atomic bomb. He died on the 18th of February 1967 in Princeton New Jersey, United States.

8. Nikola Tesla

An Electrical Engineer born on 10th of July, 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia, later developed to be Mechanical Engineer, and Futurist.

The current (AC) motor and the AC generation as well as transmission technology were his own development. He was famous for the invention of the first alternating. His IQ estimation scored 160 to 310. He designed and invented the world wireless system, which was a telecommunication and electrical power delivery system.

He died on the 7th of January, 1943 in New York, United States.

Mary Elizabeth Moore Shannon was his wife and together they had three children namely; Margarita Shannon, Robert James Shannon, and Andrew Moore Shannon.

He is famous for laying the foundations for digital circuits and information theory which is a model of mathematics communication.

His great mind designed and invented the juggling robot.

Similarly, he helped to work on encryption for a device that was used to help FDR and Churchill communicate securely during the Second World War.

He died on the 24th of February, 2001 in Medford Massachusetts, United States.
