Did you know that Babe Ruth was not an orphan? I guess you did not. Well, Babe Ruth had parents despite spending most of his life in an orphanage until he became a baseball star. According to sources, Babe Ruth鈥檚 father George Sr. was a businessman who owned a small business near their apartment. But how did a young boy find himself in an orphanage despite having parents? He ended up in an orphanage at an age of seven after he displayed unruly behavior with his parents. His father would not handle his weird behavior and therefore he was remanded in an orphanage. His parents would visit him occasionally and spend time with him under strict supervision. The boy would soon be sent back to the orphanage where he spent his teenage. He spent his life on and off school in the orphanage until he joined a baseball team.

2. He Became the Greatest Baseball Player because of Brother Matthias

Despite having a natural talent for playing baseball, Ruth鈥檚 growth in playing the game was natured at St Mary鈥檚 school by Brother Matthias. According to reports, Ruth got his nickname 鈥楤abe鈥 when he first reported to his new team. The name babe was a common name that was used to refer to new players on the team. The name was also used to refer to players with big bodies, as a way to try and intimidate them, as well as na茂ve players. He went to Yale School to donate a biography and meet the baseball team in the school. He handed the signed autobiography to the team鈥檚 captain, who was none other than George H. W Bush who became the 41st president of the United States of America.

Babe Ruth did not know his real birthday as he spend several decades knowing that he was born on February 7, 1894. He was applying for a passport in preparation for sailing to Japan with the 1934 team of the season when he found out his real birthday. He found his birth certificates indicating that he was born on February 6, 1895. However, Ruth continued celebrating February 7 as his birthday.

11. Babe Ruth鈥檚 Father, George Sr. death Came as a result of a Fight 

Babe Ruth鈥檚 family was known for being chaotic and easy to engage in fights among themselves and with strangers. George Herman Ruth was a businessman who owned several saloons and was a bartender as well. However, in August 1918 on one fateful day, George Sr. was in the bar when two of his brothers-in-law began a fight over unknown family issues. George decided to become a mediator to stop the fight as he followed them into the street. During the fight, one of the men turned to Ruth and pushed him throwing him to the ground where he fell on the back of his head and cracked a skull. He died in hospital.

He was arrested and spent the rest of the day in jail. Ruth was released less than an hour before the game and sped off on a motorcycle to make it just in time to play for the Yankees.

His first full season in baseball made him known across the country and that was when he married a sixteen-year-old Helen Woodford. However, the couple separated a few years after their marriage became chaotic. A few years later, a woman died in a house in Massachusetts and was thought to be Helen Kinder, wife to Edward Kinder. However, before burial, the woman was identified as Helen Woodford, former wife to Babe Ruth.

Babe Ruth was known for crossing boundaries in his life and one of them was having a beer during the games while he was in Chicago playing for the Yankees. A bartender in McCuddy鈥檚 bar in Chicago explained that Ruth used to run down the bar during halftime to take a beer before resuming the game.
