1. Denver

Denver is located in the Southwestern United States, in the South Platte River Valley on the western edge of the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The city was founded in 1858 as a gold mining camp, and it was incorporated on November 7, 1861. It was named after James W. Denver, a governor of the Kansas Territory. It is nicknamed the Mile High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile (5280 feet or 1609.344 meters) above sea level.

The city is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Colorado. Denver is ranked as a Beta world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. This means that Denver is a city which is a primary node in the global economic network.

Denver is a walkable, outdoor city with 300 days of sunshine, brilliant blue skies and breathtaking mountain scenery. It is renowned for its one-of-a-kind outdoor concert venue that is surrounded by giant, ancient rock formations and the Denver Union Station which is a transportation, dining, shopping and entertainment hub, all centered around the Crawford Hotel.

Telluride is in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Colorado. It sits in a box canyon. Steep forested mountains and cliffs surround it, with Bridal Veil Falls situated at the canyon’s head. The town itself was founded in 1878 as “Columbia”, but due to confusion with a California town of the same name, was renamed Telluride in 1887 for the gold telluride minerals found in other parts of Colorado.

The Telluride Historic District, which includes a significant portion of the town, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is also one of Colorado’s 20 National Historic Landmarks. Once called the “City of Lights,” Telluride was the first city in the world to have electric streetlight and the first town in the world to have alternating current (AC) power, thanks to the Ames Power Plant.

Today, Telluride is especially known for its ski resort and slopes during the winter, as well as an extensive festival schedule during the summer, including the Hot Air Balloon festival, which traditionally occurs the first weekend in June. The town’s colorful Victorian-era homes, clapboard storefronts and historic buildings now mix exceptionally well with boutiques, art galleries, gourmet restaurants and much more.

The city was named after the nearby Manitou mineral springs.

The city is home to the Colorado Springs Olympic & Paralympic Training Center and the headquarters of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. The highest suspension bridge is located in the city. The Royal Gorge Bridge looms 1,053 feet above the Arkansas River.

Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, the city is full of trails and parks that provide scenic views of rock formations and other unique geological features, like Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods Park, The Broadmoor Seven Falls, and Cave Of The Winds Mountain Park. It also has a variety of cultural, educational, and historical attractions including the Cheyenne Mountain Heritage Center, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, the American Numismatic Association Money Museum, Peterson Air and Space Museum, and the United States Air Force Academy.

Boulder is located at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, at an elevation of 5,430 feet (1,655 m) above sea level. The city was settled by miners in 1858 and named after nearby Boulder creek. The creek was named prior to the city’s founding, for all the large granite boulders that have cascaded into the creek over the eons.
In 1967, Boulder became the first city in the United States to tax itself for funds to be used specifically for the acquisition, management and maintenance of open space. It is home to the main campus of the University of Colorado, the state’s largest university.

Boulder, is best known for its outdoor activities; from hiking and mountain and road biking to stand-up paddleboarding and rock climbing, award-winning breweries; with Coors and Anheuser-Busch nearby, plus 20 local microbreweries, this area has become the largest beer-producing triangle in the world and a vibrant downtown that bustle with inviting locally owned businesses and a bounty of crowd-pleasing family attractions.

5. Fort Collins

Fort Collins a city is situated along the Cache la Poudre River (the state’s “Trout Route”), in the eastern foothills of the Front Range, at an elevation of 5,004 feet (1,525 metres), 55 miles (89 km) north of Denver. The city developed after 1864 around a military outpost, named after its commander, Lieutenant William O. Collins of Fort Laramie, Wyoming. In 1873, the city was incorporated.

The city itself was recently named a Certified Colorado Creative District, thanks to its artsy and innovative vibe. Disnelyland’s Main Street USA was designed by Harper Goff who modelled the street after his hometown of Fort Collins. The Cache la Poudre River, which runs right through the middle of Fort Collins, is Colorado’s only nationally designated “Wild & Scenic” River.
