Jenna ortega Ethnicity: Everything you need to know

Jenna Ortega was born in the Coachella Valley, Palm Desert, California, in the United States in the year 2002. She is the fourth of six children; three sisters, Mia Ortega, Aaliyah Ortega, and Mariah Ortega and two brothers, Issac Ortega and Markus Ortega.

She recently got attention after the release of the new series, Wednesday, which continues to hold the number one spot on Netflix.  She has received high praise for her portrayal in the show.

Her ethnicity is one of the most asked questions by her fans. By birth she is American but her background ethnicity is Mexican and Puerto Rican. She is proud of her heritage and she grew up in a community surrounded by all kinds of Hispanics even though they lived in the United States.

By evaluations she is 75 percent Mexican and 25 percent Puerto Rican. This is because her mother, Natalie Ortega, is of Mexican and Puerto Rican ancestry. Jenna’s great grandma on her mother’s side migrated from Mexico to the United States as an illegal migrant.

Her main purpose for moving to the States was to live a more comfortable lifestyle for herself and her daughters. Her Puerto Rico ancestry trace back to her mom’s father was born in Puerto Rico. He later travelled to New York with his entire family when he was extremely young and then moved to California during his high school years.

When her great grandmother moved, she made sure that the kids were enrolled in English speaking schools so as to not draw attention to the authorities. They would always speak perfect English all in the aim of avoiding to be deported as the papers were being processed.

Jenna’s mother learnt Spanish from her grandmother who babysat her often. Her mother is therefore bilingual as she can speak English and Spanish. Her parents tried to teach them both languages.

Her mom would speak Spanish to them while their dad would speak in English so that they could learn both languages. Jenna’s father on the other hand is 100 percent Mexican. His family moved to California a long time ago and that is why Spanish died down in his family.

Her family often takes part in traditions like having a piñata in all birthday parties and having tamales every year around Christmas time. They would have amazing tacos and carne asada that her dad would make.
