Christian Pulisic was born on September 18th, 1998. He is an American who plays for Premier League club Chelsea and the United States national team as an attacking midfielder or winger. Fans and other players have given him the nickname “Captain America” due to his exceptional level of play and nationality.

At the German team Borussia Dortmund, Pulisic made his professional debut. In 2016, at the age of 17, he was promoted to the senior team after making quick progress through the team’s junior program.

1. Pulisic Is from A Footballing Family

At George Mason University, both of his parents, Mark and Kelley Pulisic, played collegiate soccer. In the 1990s, his father also participated in indoor soccer as a professional player for the Harrisburg Heat.

 Later, he started working as a coach for both youth and professional levels. Pulisic鈥檚 cousin, Will trained with BVB鈥檚 youth teams in 2016/2017 before taking up his place at Duke University.

2. Pulisic Was Born in Hershey, Pennsylvania

The majority of Pulisic’s boyhood was spent in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where he was born. He started playing for the Brackley Town youth team when he was seven years old. Pulisic lived in Michigan and played for Michigan Rush during the mid-2000s.

Pulisic grew up playing for local U.S. teams after the family relocated to the Hershey region. During his teen years, Harrisburg City Islanders, now known as Penn FC, and PA Classics, a soccer development academy, occasionally trained with him.

3. Jumpstarted His Career at Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund signed 16-year-old Pulisic in February 2015, first placing him on their U17 team and then, in the summer, their U19 team. In just 15 games with Dortmund’s younger teams, Pulisic had 10 goals and 8 assists. Over the winter break, he was called up to the first team.

On January 30, 2016, in a 2-0 victory over Ingolstadt, he made his Bundesliga debut by replacing Adri谩n Ramos in the second half. In a 2-0 victory over Porto on February 18, Pulisic made his UEFA Europa League debut as a substitute.

On April 17, Pulisic opened the scoring in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 home victory over Hamburg, recording his first Bundesliga goal for the team. At 17 years and 212 days old, he was the fourth-youngest player to score a goal in the Bundesliga and the youngest non-German.

Pulisic joined Premier League team, Chelsea, on January 2, 2019, for an anticipated transfer cost of 拢58 million. Additionally, as part of the agreement, he was allowed to finish the 2018鈥19 campaign on loan at Dortmund.

Due to this transaction, Pulisic became the most expensive American player. He also became the second-most expensive player ever sold by Borussia Dortmund, behind Ousmane Demb茅l茅.

6. First American to Play a UEFA Champions League Final

After Willian left for Arsenal in the winter, Pulisic was given the number 10 shirt ahead of his second year at Chelsea. At the Estadio Alfredo Di St茅fano on April 27, Pulisic scored Chelsea’s lone goal in a 1-1 away draw. This was against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal matchup.

He was the youngest Chelsea player and the first American to score in the semifinals. In the return game at Stamford Bridge, Pulisic came on as a substitute. He provided the assist for Mason Mount’s late goal to make it 2鈥0 and secure passage to the final.

On May 29, Pulisic won his first Champions League after Chelsea won 1鈥0 against Manchester City in the final at the Est谩dio do Drag茫o in Porto. He became the first American to play in a UEFA Champions League Final. Pulisic also became the second American to win it after Jovan Kirovski in 1997 with Borussia Dortmund.

Pulisic scored in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener in 2021鈥22. The following week, he tested positive for COVID鈥19, and due to an ankle injury, he didn’t play again until November. Pulisic came on early as a substitute in the 2021 Club World Cup Final, helping Chelsea to a 2-1 over Palmeiras.

8. On 29th March 2016, Pulisic Made His First Senior International Debut

Pulisic represented the US in the U-15 and U-17 levels. Although eligible, Pulisic turned down the chance to represent Croatia in international competition.

Before a World Cup qualifying match against Guatemala on March 27, 2016, head coach J眉rgen Klinsmann called up Pulisic to the senior team. He made his debut in that game two days later. As a result, he became the youngest American to play in a World Cup qualifier.

In a friendly loss to Italy on November 20, 2018, Pulisic became the national team’s youngest captain. Pulisic was 20 years, 63 days. On June 6, 2021, Pulisic led the United States national team to a 3-2 victory over Mexico in the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League final.

In the 114th minute, he converted a penalty to score the game-winning goal. Pulisic scored his first international hat-trick during their win over Panama in the FIFA WORLD Cup qualification.

9. Pulisic Obtained Croatian Citizenship

Mate Puli拧i膰, the paternal grandfather of Pulisic, was born in Croatia on the island of Olib. After relocating to Germany, Pulisic acquired Croatian citizenship to avoid having to apply for a German work visa. A visa is necessary to work there without a European Union passport.

Pulisic is a devout Christian. He often posts Bible verses on his social media accounts. Outside of soccer, Pulisic is a fan of the New York Jets, New York Rangers, and Philadelphia 76ers. He enjoys playing chess.
