Vincent Lamar Carter Jr. was born on 26 January 1977. He is an American former professional basketball player who serves as a basketball analyst for ESPN. He primarily played the shooting guard and small forward positions, but occasionally played power forward later in his NBA career. He was an eight-time All-Star and a two-time All-NBA Team selection.

He was the scoring leader on the 2000 United States Men’s Olympic Basketball Team where the USA defeated France to win the nation’s twelfth Men’s Basketball Olympic gold medal. In the article are the top ten facts about Vince Carter.

1. He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is a historically African-American fraternity. The fraternity was founded on November 17, 1911, by three Howard University juniors Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper, and Frank Coleman, and their faculty adviser, Dr Ernest Everett Just.

Since its founding, the organization has chartered over 750 undergraduate and graduate chapters. Omega Psi Phi is the first fraternal organization founded at a historically black university.

2. He was a member of McDonald’s All-American

The McDonald’s All-American Game is the all-star basketball game played each year for American and Canadian boys’ and girls’ high school basketball graduates. Consisting of the top players, each team plays a single exhibition game after the conclusion of the high-school basketball season, in an East vs. West format.

As part of the annual event, boys and girls compete in a slam dunk contest and a three-point shooting competition and compete alongside All-American Game alumni in a timed team shootout.

3. Carter played college basketball for three years with the North Carolina Tar Heels

The North Carolina Tar Heels Men’s basketball program is the college basketball team of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is the only school to have reached at least one Final Four for nine straight decades and at least two Final Fours for six straight decades. In 2012, ESPN ranked North Carolina No. 1 on its list of the 50 most successful programs of the past fifty years.

4. He advanced twice to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament

The NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, branded as NCAA March Madness, and commonly known simply as March Madness, is a single-elimination tournament played each spring in the United States.

It currently is featuring 68 college basketball teams from the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), to determine the national championship. Played mostly during March, it has become one of the biggest annual sporting events in the United States.

5. Carter is a child advocate

Off the court, Carter established the Embassy of Hope Foundation, helping children and their families in Florida, New Jersey, and Ontario. He was recognized in 2000 as Child Advocate of the Year by the Children’s Home Society and received the Florida Governor’s Points of Light award in 2007 for his philanthropy in his home state.

6. He is a graduate with a degree in African-American studies

Carter attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is not only a basketball player and legendary icon but also a very learned person because he has a degree from the university.

He is popular and famous that in his sophomore and junior seasons, he helped North Carolina to consecutive ACC men’s basketball tournament titles and Final Four appearances. Also, he is known to have graduated from the institution to have graduated with a degree in African-American studies.

7. When did Carter start his professional career?

Carter showcased a great ability in basketball during his high school years and also college years. Frequently scouted he was found fit to play professional basketball. Therefore, he was drafted in the 1998 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors as the fifth overall pick.

Carter was then traded to the Toronto Raptors for the fourth overall pick, Antawn Jamison, Carter’s college teammate and friend. The Raptors had struggled in their first three years as a franchise.

Carter was instrumental in leading the Raptors to their first-ever playoff appearance in 2000 before going on to lead them to a 47-win season and their first-ever playoff series win in 2001, advancing them to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

8. Why was Carter traded to the New Jersey Nets in the 2004 season?

During the 2004 off-season, general manager Glen Grunwald and the entire coaching staff were fired. Following trade rumours all season long, on December 17, 2004, new general manager Rob Babcock traded Carter to the New Jersey Nets for Alonzo Mourning, Aaron Williams, Eric Williams, and two first-round draft pick.

So, it’s because Rob Babcock wanted to increase his team that he decided to trade Carter for three players and two first-round draft picks.

9. He has been married twice

Carter married Ellen Rucker, a chiropractor, in July 2004. The couple divorced in 2006. They have one daughter together. Carter is now married to Sondhi Carter, a NASM trainer. They have a son and a daughter.

10. Carter is also the cousin of Tracy McGrady

Tracy Lamar McGrady Jr. is an American former professional basketball player. He is best known for his career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). McGrady is a seven-time NBA All-Star, seven-time All-NBA selection, two-time NBA scoring champion, and winner of the NBA Most Improved Player Award in 2001.
