Donald Cerrone was born on the 29th of March 1983 in Denver, Colorado. He is of Irish and Italian descent. He is a retired MMA fighter, kickboxer, boxer, and actor.

He was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and got into trouble a lot. His parents then put him under the care of his Paternal grandmother who took care of him with open arms.

He attended Air Academy High School, where he began professional bull riding. He then began his kickboxing and MMA Career.

He is known professionally as Cowboy. He has received numerous accolades for his skills in combat. His tough cowboy persona has also gotten him in trouble with numerous controversies surrounding him.

1. American retired mixed martial artist

Mixed martial arts is a full-contact combat sport based on striking, grappling, and ground fighting, incorporating techniques from various combat sports from around the world.

Cerrone started to pursue mixed martial arts after his success in Muay Thai and kickboxing winning a few kickboxing competitions. He began his career in 2005 and retired in 2022

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is an American mixed martial art promotion company.

It is the largest MMA promotion company in the world and is based in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It is owned and operated by Zuffa and produces events worldwide. Cerrone competed in the Lightweight and Welterweight division.

He has been awarded numerous honors including the Ultimate Fighting Championship, World Extreme Cage fighting, Sherdog Awards, World MMA Awards, etc.

3. Donald is a former professional kickboxer

Kickboxing is a combat sport focused on kicking and punching and is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or for competition.

The combat takes place in a boxing ring, normally with boxing gloves, mouth guards, shorts, and bare feet to favor the use of kicks.

Cerrone began training in kickboxing at the age of 20 and has a record of 28 wins in kickboxing, 19 by knockout, 0 losses, and only 1 draw.

He has also won numerous accolades in this field like the Dominion Warrior Muay Thai World Lightweight Championship, the ISKA Amateur Colorado State Middleweight Championship, and the KDC Amateur Welterweight Championship.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder also known as (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder whose symptoms arise from executive dysfunction and emotional dysregulation.

It is characterized by excessive amounts of inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, etc.

Cerrone was diagnosed with the disorder at a young age but never received treatment for it.

He grew up as a troubled child and would eventually start Street fighting and often end up in jail overnight.

At the age of 16, his parents were fed up with his behavior and sent him off to go live with his paternal grandmother Jerry Cerrone.

Donald revealed his grandmother took him in with open arms. She bailed him out of trouble with his friends and she never fussed about his actions.

5. Cerrone established an MMA gym

Donald the well-established former mixed martial artist opened a gym at his property in Edgewood, New Mexico in 2014.

The gym was created to lower his training camp costs by hosting his training partners at the estate with other fighters like Lando Vannata, John Dodson, and Leonard Garcia.

The gym hosted Coaches like Jonavin Webb, Brandon Gibson, and Jafari Vanier. Rob McElhenney creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia also trained at BMF Ranch. He is a good friend of Donald and has allowed him special appearance’s in the show.

6. Donald has been accused of racist comments

Cerrone has been accused numerously of making racist comments.

In 2014 Bobby Green accused him of making racist comments towards him and about black people, in an interview with journalist Ariel Helwani.

Donald retaliated claiming if he were racist, he wouldn’t have three black guys living with him.

In 2016 Aljamain Sterling came forward claiming that during an altercation between him and Cerrone at the UFC International Fight Week, Cerrone’s threats had racial overtones.

He has also been criticized for his casual online usage of the racial slur “nigga”.

7. He has been criticized for using homophobic and transphobic comments

Cerrone is known for his rugged and tough personality and always speaks his mind. He has gotten in trouble for his comments offending the homophobic and transgender community.

He was accused of disrespecting the transgender community after he commented on the Fighter and the Kid podcast against the host’s use of female pronouns to describe a trans woman.

The episode was discussing U.S. President Donald Trump’s attempts to ban transgender people from serving in the US armed forces.

Cerrone has also been known to criticize fellow fighters with a homophobic slur. During his trash talk to describe Jamie Varner at the WEC 51 in 2010, he called him “a fag” and that he hoped to kill him in the ring.

The WEC officials soon publicly condemned his remarks Cerrone apologized for the death threats but did not mention the slur usage.

Donald also criticized Daniel Cormier’s performance against Anderson Silva at UFC 200 during a Q&A at UFC Fan Expo when he was a panelist.

Cerrone criticized Cormier’s wrestling-heavy game plan calling him a fag. He later apologized on Instagram for his choice of words while wearing a UFC rainbow T-shirt in support of the LGBTQ community

Donald is one of the most famous MMA fighters in America.

His cowboy persona has earned him great fame and fortune that has landed him an acting career as well.

He has appeared in small roles in film and television since 2017. Cerrone has also worked in a Netflix film Spenser Confidential in 2020.

9. He has been accused of sexual harassment

UFC fighter Bobby Green accused Donald of sexually harassing his female fans during an interview with Ariel Helwani.

Bobby claimed Cerrone groped and behaved inappropriately toward the women that came to take a photo with him at the UFC Fan Expo signing in 2014.

Donald denied the accusations claiming no fan filed a lawsuit and the accusations were released two years after the incident.

Cerrone questioned why this wasn’t made public at the time during his interview with Sherdog.

10. He created a stir when interviewed by a journalist regarding the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic caused major havoc across the world.

Numerous countries tried to control the spread of the disease through measures like mandatory masks, six- feet separation of individuals, and lockdowns.

During the press conference for the UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley some players were interviewed.

Cerrone was questioned by a journalist on his views on the COVID-19 lockdown and safety measures.

He then claimed he was a true-gritted hardcore American Republican and refused orders to wear a mask on national television. He revealed he “doesn’t stand for that shit” during the interview.
