Jeff Bezos, by name of Jeffrey Preston Bezos, was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.

He is an American entrepreneur who played a key role in the growth of e-commerce as the founder and chief executive officer of Amazon.com, Inc., an online merchant of books and later of a wide variety of products

Jacklyn Gise Jorgensen Bezos鈥 mother was barely 17 years old and a junior in high school when she gave birth to her son in 1964.

She was allowed to return to school under strict conditions and was able to graduate.

Jacklyn Bezos later divorced Jeff Bezos’ biological father, Ted Jorgensen, after less than a year of marriage.

Jeff Bezos was just over a year old at the time and she struggled to make ends meet while working as a secretary.

Determined to make life better for her and her son, Bezos enrolled in college classes with professors who permitted her to bring her infant along.

It was there she met her future husband, Mike Bezos, a Cuban immigrant who would give Jeff Bezos his last name and step in as his father.

1. Jeff Bezos鈥 Father was a Circus Performer

According to the 2013 biography of Jeff Bezos by Brad Stone, The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon, the now billionaire’s biological father was a unicyclist and circus performer.

When Stone tracked down Jorgensen to interview him for his biography, he had reportedly not seen his son in decades and hadn’t realized he was his biological father.

Jorgensen reached out to his son and the two made amends, with Bezos telling him “he harboured no ill will towards Jorgensen at all,” according to Stone.

Ted Jorgensen died on March 16, 2015, at the age of 71.

Jeff Bezos is the founder of Amazon and amongst the richest persons on the planet. 

He is a businessman, engineer, media proprietor, space enthusiast and philanthropist, Bezos has excelled in every field he has ventured into

According to Forbes, his real-time net worth stands at a whopping $187.7 billion. H

e reigned at the top spot of Forbes wealthiest rankings from 2017 and his wealth is greater than the GDP of many countries.

He initially named his start-up Cadabra and later changed it to Amazon after the famous river.

In the beginning, Bezos wasn鈥檛 confident about his business and went as far as warning investors there was a 70% chance of it going bankrupt. Well, that didn’t happen.

His annual salary from Amazon in 2020 was $81,840, which qualifies as a middle-income wage in his home state of California.

In 2020, he took no bonuses, stocks or options, however, he earned $1,600,000 from 鈥渙ther types of compensation,鈥 according to the website Salary.com.

3.  As a Child, Jeff Bezos was Tinkerer and Entrepreneurial.

When Bezos was a toddler, he reportedly felt he was “too old” to sleep in a crib and managed to take it apart with a screwdriver by himself.

Bezos grew up as a tinkerer and an entrepreneur. He turned his parent鈥檚 garage into an engineering workshop, experimenting with electrical components.

He even started his first business as a teenager, an educational summer camp for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders.

In February 2020, Jeff Bezos bought the Warner estate in Beverly Hills for a record $165 million.

The estate features a 13,600-square-foot mansion, two guesthouses, a pool, and a tennis court. Bezos also reportedly bought an adjacent house for $10 million last July.

Warner Estate began with three acres (1.2 hectares) of what used to be farmland, and slowly but surely, added parcels of adjacent land.

He also built out the grounds of the estate, adding a golf course and two ponds.

Warner died in 1978, and Ann Warner owned the house until she died in 1990.

That year, the music and movie tycoon David Geffen bought the whole estate, including the art, for US$47.5 million, according to Forbes. The sale set a record at the time.

5. Jeff Bezos Currently Makes $3,715 Per Second

Taking into account his rising net worth over the past few years, Bezos makes about $8.99 billion per month translating to $2.25 billion per week, or $321 million per day, according to Vizaca.com.

What Bezos makes per second is shocking. Vizaca breaks down the calculations to report that Bezos makes $3,715 per second.

That鈥檚 more than the median full-time weekly wage for most Americans, which is $984 per week, or $24.60 per hour, according to the Department of Labor Bureau of Statistics.

And it鈥檚 definitely more than the median wage for Amazon workers, which was just $29,007 per year or $557.82 per week in 2020.

6. Despite an Expensive Divorce Bezos is Still Insanely Rich

Mackenzie Bezos was awarded a 4% stake in Amazon, which was worth upwards of $36 billion  as part of the divorce settlement.

This made Mackenzie Scott the third richest woman in the world.

Bezos still retained the world’s richest person’s title even after he had given away a quarter of his total wealth to his wife Mackenzie Scott when their marriage ended in 2019.

Additionally, by 2020 Bezos鈥 net worth had increased by over $18 billion, effectively recouping half the divorce settlement.

7. Jeff Bezos Survived a Helicopter Crash

 Bezos, his attorney, guide Ty Holland and pilot Charles Bella were involved in a serious helicopter crash in west Texas after the wind blew the helicopter off course.

The helicopter was partially filled with water after landing upside-down in a creek.

Bella, Bezos, and Holland all escaped the wreck with only minor injuries. However, Bezos’ attorney, Elizabeth Korrell, suffered a broken vertebra from the accident.

“Avoid helicopters whenever possible,” Bezos told Fast Company in 2004. “They’re not as reliable as fixed-wing aircraft.”

8. Jeff Bezos Donated Millions of Dollars for Covid Intervention

The pandemic-fueled online shopping pushed Amazon to add 400,000 jobs, largely in its warehouses and delivery operations translating to more money for Bezos.

Bezos has also made significant contributions to various causes at different points of his successful career.

To help the needy during the COVID-19 crisis, Bezos donated $100 million to Feed America, a non-profit organization that runs food pantries across the country.

A further  $25 million for All in WA, a statewide relief effort in Washington, and an undisclosed amount to All In Seattle, a local initiative to assist nonprofits.

 To the median American donor, Bezos鈥檚 giving was equal to about $85.

His Blue Origin committed to print 3-D face shields for front-line workers, although it didn鈥檛 disclose the value of that contribution.

Bezos, who had been publicly criticized for not providing enough protective equipment or paid sick leave for Amazon workers committed $4 billion in anticipated second-quarter profits for employee safety, higher wages and testing.

America鈥檚 50 wealthiest people and families with a collective net worth of nearly $1.6 trillion publicly announced donations toward covid-19 relief efforts amount to about $1 billion, which is less than 0.1%  of their vast personal wealth.

9. Bezos Made a Cameo Appearance on the Movie Star Trek Beyond

Bezos played the role of an alien Starfleet official in the 2016 Star Trek Beyond the big-screen voyage of the Starship Enterprise.

Director Justin Lin had Bezos play an official who was getting a rescued spacefarer (played by Lydia Wilson) ready for an auto-translated interview with Captain Kirk and a Starfleet officer.

Bezos is the owner of Blue Origin.

The aerospace manufacturer and sub-orbital spaceflight Services Company was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Kent, Washington which is also Bezos’ home state. 

“Blue Origin believes that in order to preserve Earth, our home, for our grandchildren’s grandchildren, we must go to space to tap its unlimited resources and energy,” the company’s mission statement reads.

On June 20, 2021, Bezos and three companions successfully journeyed to the edge of space before returning back to Earth just minutes later.
