One World Trade Center is also known as One World Trade, One WTC, and formerly the Freedom Tower. This skyscraper is the tallest building in the United States of America and the 7th tallest building in the world. The building serves as a home to a number of offices. Further, it has an observatory desk where people can view the city from.

One World Trade Center is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center Complex. The complex was a complex of seven buildings that was located in Lower Manhattan. 1. It is the tallest building in United States

One World Trade Center is a skyscraper in New York. The architectural height of One World Trade Center is 1776 feet, it is 1368 feet without the antenna on top of the roof.

The architectural height of the tower is temporally ranked first in New York City and the United States, as well as the whole West Hemisphere. Judged by the roof’s the roof’s height, it is the 3rd tallest in New York City and 4th tallest in the United States, after Willis Tower in Chicago, Central Park Tower and 432 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

2. One World Trade Center was designed by David Childs

David Magie Childs who was born in April 1, 1941 is an American architect. He is the chairman emeritus of the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

David Childs is the reason behind One World Trade Center’s beauty. This is because he designed the new One World Trade Center in New York City. David Childs studied at the Yale School of Architecture.

3. The original building was destroyed in an attack

The construction of the original World Trade Center was an urban renewal project. The project was spearheaded by David Rockefeller. The construction began in 1966 and by 1971 tenants began to move in.

On September 11, 2001, five hijackers affiliated with al-Qaeda crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the northern façade of the North Tower between the 93rd and 99th floors.  Around 2996 people lost their lives in the attack. It was after this that plans went underway to reconstruct.

4. The new building’s design faced criticism

The new design intended to reduce the office space by more than 3,000,000 square feet in comparison with the original complex. Further, the number of floors that were designated for office space and other amenities in an early plan was limited.

The floor limit was imposed by Silverstein, who expressed concern that higher floors would be a liability in the event of a future terrorist attack or other incident.

5. The name One World Trade Center is an intellectual property

At construction, this building was known as Freedom Tower. The Port Authority changed the official name of the building from “Freedom Tower” to “One World Trade Center”, stating that this name was the “easiest for people to identify with.”

In September 2013 it was revealed that the World Trade Center Association (WTCA) was negotiating with regard to the “World Trade Center” name, as the WTCA had purchased the rights to the name in 1986. The WTCA sought $500,000 worth of free office space in the tower in exchange for the use of “World Trade Center” in the tower’s name and associated souvenirs.

6. The building has an observatory desk

The tower has a three-story observation deck, located on floors 100–102. Visitors to the observation deck and tenants have their own separate entrances. To show visitors the city, and give them information and stories about New York, an interactive tool called City Pulse is used by Tour Ambassadors.

The admission fee is $32 per person. Admission discounts are available for children and seniors, and the deck is free for 9/11 responders and families of 9/11 victims.

7. It was constructed using sustainable architecture features

One World Trade Center makes use of sustainable architectural features. Significant parts of the building’s structure and interior is built from recycled materials. These include gypsum boards and ceiling tiles.

Close to 80 percent of the tower’s waste products are recycled. Although the roof area of any tower is limited, the building implements a rainwater collection and recycling scheme for its cooling systems.

8. The building has a well fortified design to withstand attacks

Quite a number of safety features were included in the building’s design. This was in preparation for any major accident or terrorist attack. The building has 3-foot thick reinforced concrete walls in all stairwells, elevator shafts, risers, and sprinkler systems. There are also extra-wide, pressurized stairwells.

The building has a dedicated set of stairwells exclusively for the use of firefighters, and biological and chemical filters throughout the ventilation system. All vehicles are screened for radioactive materials and other potentially dangerous objects before they enter the site through the underground road.

9. During it’s construction, a 16 year old sneaked in and climbed up the building

In March 2014, the tower was scaled by 16-year-old New Jersey resident Justin Casquejo. He allegedly entered the site through a hole in a fence. He was consequently arrested on trespassing charges.

Dressed like a construction worker, he sneaked in and convinced an elevator operator to lift him to the tower’s 88th floor. He then used stairways to get to the 104th floor. He climbed up a ladder to get to the antenna, where he took pictures for two hours.

10. The developer of the property is Larry Silverstein

Larry A. Silverstein is an American businessman. Among his real estate projects, he is the developer of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City.

He was interested in acquiring the original World Trade Center complex, and put in a bid when the Port Authority put it up for lease in 2000. After the September 11 attacks, in 2001, Silverstein declared his intent to rebuild. After lots of back and forth, Larry become the developer.
