Additionally, she assumed office as the Secretary of the Senate Democratic Conference in 2017 and has served in that capacity since then. She is openly LGBTQIA and was elected to the US House of Representatives as well as the Senate.

Subsequently, she made a record as the first openly gay woman to be elected to both US legislative houses. She was first elected to the 106th Congress in 1999 and later to the US Senate in 2013. She was born in Wisconsin on February 11, 1962.

2. Pete Buttigieg-US Secretary of Transportation

The former naval officer who is prominent as an American politician is recognized for his service as Mayor of South Bend. He was mayor from 2012 to 2020 and his role earned him the moniker “Mayor Pete”.

Moreover, Pete’s other top-ranking public position is the United States Secretary of Transportation. He assumed this office in February 2021. In 2020, he declared his interest as a candidate for the Democratic Party presidential primaries that year. He is openly gay and was born in South Bend on January 19, 1982.

3. Ana Brnabić- former Prime Minister of Serbia

She is famous for holding the office of Prime Minister of Serbia. She assumed the office in June 2017 and has served in the position since then. As an openly gay politician, she is the first female affiliate of the LGBTQIA to occupy the office.

To add on, she has also led several ministerial dockets such as finance, foreign affairs, and public administration. She was born in Serbia on 28 September 1975.

4. Robert Biedroń- Polish member of the European Parliament

This Polish politician served as mayor and was acclaimed for forming a political party in February 2019 that is known as Spring. In May of the same year, he was listed by his party to become a member of the European Parliament.

Furthermore, he is an LGBTQIA activist and among the leaders of the left-wing political alliance, Lewica (The Left). He contested in the 2020 Polish presidential elections and came in at sixth place. He was born in Poland on 13 April 1976.

5. Claudia López-Mayor of Bogotá, Colombia

This openly LGBTQIA Colombian politician is noted for her service as Senator from 2014 to 2018. Her popularity pushed her to vie for the vice-presidential seat in the 2018 Colombian presidential election. She ran under the Green Alliance party ticket but lost.

On top of that, Claudia was elected to the position of Mayor of Bogotá (Colombia’s capital) in October 2019. She was born in Colombia on 9 March 1970.

8. Jean Wyllys- former Brazillian parliamentarian

The Brazilian politician doubles as a lecturer and journalist. He rose to the spotlight when he won the Big Brother Brasil fifth season. He was elected to Brazil’s parliament where he was a member from 2011 until 2019.

Wyllys was openly gay and also served as a gay rights activist while he was in parliament. Thus, he raised concerns over death threats and opted to give up his parliamentary seat in 2019. He was born in Brazil on 10 March 1974.

9. Kyrsten Sinema- US Congresswoman

She is a notable political figure in Arizona and the US. She has served in Arizona’s both houses of the legislature. She has also served in the two houses of Congress. Her recently elected position is the US Senator for Arizona since 2019. Sinema is openly bisexual. She was born in Arizona on July 12, 1976.
