15 Cases of Famous Missing People

In approximately the past 30 years, the US has had over 600,000 missing person cases annually on average. We can only guess at the number of people who go missing each year around the world because the United States is only one of 195 countries in the world and because many missing persons are not reported. It is terrifying to consider just how high it might be, but it is undoubtedly in the millions. Fortunately, a lot of the lost are soon located. In the US, the majority are located within days.

Many people who disappear do so voluntarily in order to start over. However, there are still a startling number of unexplained disappearances given a large number of recorded occurrences. In some of these unsolved instances, the clues left behind support so many conflicting theories or raise more questions than they do answers, making it difficult to come to a final conclusion. As a result, there are many frustrating dead ends and intriguing riddles for us armchair sleuths to investigate in the quest to locate the missing. Here are 15 missing people whose unsolved riddles still exist today.

The sixth Fatimid caliph and sixteenth Ismaili imam,  Abū ʿAlī Manṣūr most often known by his regnal name, Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah was born on August 13, 985, and died on February 13, 1021. He was a Fatimid dynasty monarch in the tenth and eleventh centuries and was renowned for his unpredictable and conflicting style of rule. He ruled for 25 of his known 36 years (996–1021), during which time he, for example, established a generous program to help the poor before following it up with some incredibly harsh or peculiar decree, like prohibiting women from leaving their homes and then forbidding cobblers from making or selling women’s shoes. Al-Hakim rode out of Cairo one evening in February 1021. He vanished without a trace, and his body was never discovered.

Edward IV made his son Edward V the prince of Wales when he assumed the throne again. However, upon the king’s passing, a disagreement over the validity of the king’s marriage to Elizabeth broke out between the child’s maternal and paternal uncles. Edward V and his brother Richard, the Duke of York, were eventually imprisoned in the Tower of London. Skeletons discovered in the tower in 1647 are thought to be those of the lads, and it is assumed that they were murdered.

3. Solomon Northup

The life of Solomon Northup is one of extreme adversity and tenacity. Northup was kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1841 despite the fact that he was born a free man in New York in about 1808. Before he discovered a way to write letters to his family in 1852, he was owned by a slew of cruel masters. After being granted legal freedom again in 1853, Northup cowrote the wildly successful memoir Twelve Years a Slave. He rose to fame on the national stage and gave speeches around the land. The allegations against his kidnappers were subsequently dropped in 1857. Northup immediately withdrew from view after that. He most certainly entered the Underground Railroad, but his passing and circumstances are unknown.

4. The Sodder Children

A photograph received by Jenny Sodder of Fayetteville, WV, USA, in the mail from Kentucky in 1967. She and her husband George believed the person in it is their son Louis, who they believe disappeared along with four of his siblings around the time of a 1945 fire that destroyed their house, when Louis was almost ten. Text on the reverse of the original includes Louis's name.

George, Jennie, and nine of their ten children lived in the Sodder family house, which burned to the ground on Christmas Eve 1945. George and Jennie managed to escape with four of their kids and believed the other five perished in the fire. Firefighters eventually arrived and investigated the wreckage of the house, but they turned up no sign of the five missing kids no bones, teeth, or other physical remains.

Regarding the Sodder house, numerous interesting discoveries were made. Their phone line, which they believed had been destroyed in the fire, had really been cut earlier. In the days that followed, neither of their trucks would start. Authorities believed that it had been tampered with. The five missing children were kidnapped and are still missing, according to the Sodder family’s surviving children, who have always insisted on this.

5. Frederick Valentich

Frederick Valentich-by Australian Department of Transportation-

Frederich Valentich, an Australian pilot, took off alone on October 21, 1978, from Moorabbin, Victoria, to the hour-long journey to King Island. He never arrived at his destination, his remains were never discovered, and no part of his plane was ever recovered, despite the fact that the weather that day was clear, bright, and wind-free. Valentich radioed Melbourne air traffic control midway through his journey to report that an unidentifiable aircraft was following him. They responded that there were no airplanes in the area.

He said that the second vehicle was imitating him by hovering over his craft and maintaining a constant speed. Later, he radioed to report that the aircraft was once more on top of him and was “not an airplane.” After 17 seconds of silence, his radio resumed playing sounds that were later characterized as metallic scraping. Aliens allegedly kidnapped Valentich and his jet, according to UFO believers.

6. Anne Marie Fahey

At the time of her disappearance, Fahey was 30 years old. Her boyfriend, Thomas Capano, a married attorney, was convicted of her murder three years later, in 1999. Delaware Online claims that Capano shot Fahey as she attempted to leave him and then dropped her body, which was in a cooler, into the Atlantic Ocean.

According to Delaware Online, both of Capano’s brothers acknowledged helping him get rid of the evidence, and one of them even assisted with getting rid of the body itself. In the end, they both gave testimony against him and another girlfriend of Capono’s acknowledged getting him a gun. Though her body was never located, the investigation of Fahey’s disappearance has technically been closed.

Marler, then 12 years old, accompanied her stepfather into town on June 6, 1984, because he had certain matters to take care of. Marler requested some cash to buy a soda from the vending machine since she was thirsty. She was to meet her stepfather at the vehicle when she returned but she was never seen again. The Charley Project claims that Marler was spotted three times throughout the years, but none of these reports have been confirmed.

8. Tara Calico

When Calico, then 19 years old, went missing in September 1988, she instructed her mother to contact the police if she didn’t return from her bike trip by noon. After her ride, Calico never came back and was never seen again. People who witnessed Calico’s trip reported seeing a truck pestering her and following her, even though they initially believed it to be her pals making fun of her. Her damaged Walkman was all that was ultimately discovered by the side of the road.

A suspicious Polaroid was discovered in a Florida parking lot, more than 1,000 miles from the place she was last seen, over a year after she vanished. In the image, a youngster and a young woman are shackled and have their mouths taped shut. The mother of Calico thought it was her child. However, the FBI was unable to confirm whether or not it was her.

9. Jennifer Kesse

Jennifer Kesse vanished on January 24, 2006. Her home was unaltered, and her clothes and toiletries indicated that she had dressed for work as normal and gone without incident that morning. Instead of being in her driveway, her car was discovered a mile away at an apartment building. Fortunately, security cameras at the building captured footage of the individual who dropped off her car there and is thought to have been responsible for her disappearance.

Unfortunately for the detectives, the man’s face was not visible on the footage. This was due to the fact that the security camera took pictures every three seconds. Every image of the man’s face is hidden behind a different fencepost as he walks behind the complex’s fence. The likelihood that he would accidentally conceal his face behind a series of posts at precisely three-second intervals is slim. He was dubbed “the luckiest person of interest ever” by a reporter. Nobody has ever located Kesse.

10. Brandon Lawson

On the evening of August 8, 2013, Brandon Lawson had a fight with his girlfriend Ladessa, left their San Angelo, Texas, house, and made plans to go a short distance to see his father in Crowley, Texas. Lawson failed to show up and vanished without a trace. However, he was mentioned to have called his brother Kyle in the middle of his journey to report that he had run out of gas and that three individuals were following him out of town.

Then came more calls. In one, Lawson called 911 and stated that he was in the middle of a field and that there was one car there. Some swear they can hear gunshots in the background music. Sadly, Lawson called Kyle and a sheriff officer as they approached the scene of his abandoned truck and said, “I can see you; I’m right here,” even though neither of them could actually see him and he would never be seen or heard from again.

11. Daylenn “Moke” Pua

Daylenn Pua, also known as Moke, was from the Big Island of Hawaii and was last seen visiting his grandmother on the island of Oahu. Pua went missing on February 27, 2015. In defiance of his grandmother’s advice, the young man chose to trek Oahu’s renowned “Stairway to Heaven” trail, which at the time was in disrepair and off-limits to hikers. As he traveled, Moke sent images of the trail to his family, showcasing the stunning sights and diverse vegetation.

The images were thoroughly examined by Moke’s family after he was reported missing. They discovered something intriguing in the background of the final shot Moke sent before going missing. Just down the route, a man in his forties can be made out half crouching behind some foliage. Naturally, the fact that he was in Moke’s final photograph aroused questions, but neither Moke’s whereabouts nor his disappearance has ever been resolved.

12. The Jamison Family

Lost-found missing unknown by GDJ-

On October 8, 2009, all three Jamison family members vanished in Red Oak, Oklahoma, for a variety of unexplained reasons. Their corpses were discovered in the woods more than four years later, roughly three miles from their abandoned truck, but they were too badly decomposed to reveal their exact cause of death. The Jamisons were in the region looking for a prospective site for a new homestead. The first sign that they were missing came when their family dog Maisie, together with their wallets, telephones, IDs, and about $32,000 in cash, were found in their abandoned pickup truck on the side of the road.

13. Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon

Dutch students Kris and Lisanne were volunteering in Panama when they vanished. The two girls started trekking the El Pianista trail on April 1, 2014, and they were never heard from again. Ten weeks later, a local found Lisanne’s backpack. It included many of the items the two girls had, including both of their phones. Ten weeks later, a local found Lisanne’s backpack. It included many of the items the two girls had, including both of their phones.

An ominous picture is painted by their phone records. Within a few hours of the hike’s beginning, both girls attempted to phone 911 and 112, respectively, but they did not have sufficient signal to connect. In addition to providing enigmatic hints, Lisanne’s camera captured over 90 images of virtually complete darkness as well as a couple that features rocks, an allegedly improvised trail marker, and Kris’s head’s back, which many believe to be damaged. The specifics remain a mystery, including whether the girls were the victims of foul play or simply got lost in the jungle.

14. Lauren Spierer

Spierer’s disappearance was exceptional in that security cameras were able to track her the whole night, up until a few seconds before she vanished. On a July night in 2011, the 20-year-old Indiana University student went out with her pals, and she was never seen or heard from again. She was last spotted leaving a friend’s residence at around 4:30 in the morning. Her boyfriend contacted her to ask where she was and reported her missing after a bartender replied she had left her phone at the bar.

15. Madeleine McCann

Tributes to Madeleine in the square in her hometown of Rothley on 17 May 2007-by Thesevenseas (talk)-

In May 2007, Madeleine McCann, then 3 years old, vanished from a holiday home in Portugal while her parents were eating dinner only 180 feet away, in what The Telegraph termed “the most highly covered missing-person case in modern history.” Every half hour until 10 p.m., her two parents checked on her until her mother went to check on her, and the window was wide open and she wasn’t in her room. The case has never been solved despite extensive searching across the small Portuguese town. The Portuguese police initially named McCann’s parents as suspects; however, they were later exonerated, and the two have devoted their entire lives to locating her.

Families and friends of missing individuals have the utmost hope that their loved one will be discovered alive, or at the least, that their loved one will be located and the case will be solved, allowing the family to find some kind of closure. Although it may not be the end they had hoped for, for some, this is a long and painful road, but at least they are relieved of the burden of wondering what happened to their loved ones.
