John is a very common name that displays strength, smartness and kindness. It was originally derived from the Hebrew Yohanan which means 鈥淵ahweh has been gracious鈥 during 407 B.C. Since then, many people have been named John and some of them are very famous people in the world. They have been very successful in their different professions such as acting, singing, politics, religion, producing, writing, comedy and sports.

Therefore, in this article today we are going to explore more about the famous Johns and what made them successful and well-recognized by their audience.

1. John Cena

John Felix Anthony Cena Jr. was born on April 23, 1977, in West Newbury Massachusetts. Cena is famously known as a professional wrestler, actor, Tv personality and rapper. He went to Cushing Academy in high school and later joined Exercise Physiology, at Springfield College. In 1998 Cena moved to California to pursue a career in bodybuilding before becoming a professional wrestler. In 2000 he was signed with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) where he later won its championship in 2005. He continued to win several championships throughout his career including the United States Championship and the world tag team championship, and these made him considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers.

Cena has played leading roles in several films: 12 Rounds, Trainwreck, Ferdinand, Blockers, Bumblebee and The Marine. He also released his rap album “You Can’t See Me” in 2005. He participated in numerous charitable foundations such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

2. John Legend

John Roger Stephens was born on December 28, 1978, in Springfield, Ohio. He is a known singer, songwriter, actor, record producer and pianist. His career picked up when he released his debut album “Get Lifted” in 2004 since it was in the top ten on the Billboard 200. Initially, he worked behind the scenes, playing the piano on Lauryn Hill鈥檚 鈥淓verything is Everything and also making unacknowledged appearances on Jay-Z and Alicia Keys songs. He won several awards including the Grammy Awards, awards for Best New Artist and Best R&B Album, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, Academy Award for Best Original Song, Golden Globe Award, Tony Award and Primetime Emmy Award.

3. John Christopher Depp

John Depp was born on June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky. Depp is a producer, musician and he is famously known as an actor because he has appeared in several scenes and roles in many movies such as A Nightmare on Elm Street, Platoon, and 21 Jump Street which brought his breakthrough, Pirate of the Caribbean and so much more. Depp has continued to win several awards throughout his career including the Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor.

4. John F. Kennedy

Kennedy was born on January 20, 1961, in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was famously known as the President of the United States who served at the height of the Cold War. He became the 35th President of the United States who ruled from 1961 to 1963. He graduated from the University of Harvard in 1940 and later he joined the U.S Naval Reserve where he won the Navy and Marine Corps Medal after he saved his fellow sailors during the sinking of PT-109. Kennedy became the youngest person to assume the presidency by election and the youngest president at the end of his term after he was assassinated in 1963. His vice President assumed the presidency after Kennedy鈥檚 death.

5. John Lennon

John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940, in Liverpool, England. He was best in Singing, Songwriting, and music and was a peace activist. His success story throughout history was when he partnered with Paul McCarthy in songwriting. He was also the founder, co-lead, co-songwriter, rhythm guitarist and vocalist of the Beatles. He, later on,  he began his solo career journey and produced the songs 鈥淚nstant Karma,鈥 鈥淕ive Peace a Chance鈥 and 鈥淚magine鈥 among several others. He also participated in films, such as 鈥淗ow I Won the War鈥 and authored 鈥淚n His Own Write鈥 and 鈥淎 Spaniard in the Works.鈥

Lennon won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1981 and in 1982 he won the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. His fame made him be introduced into both the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

6. John Hughes

He was a film director, film producer and screenwriter born on February 18, 1950, in Lansing, Michigan. To escape his problems when he was in the adolescent stage, John became an ardent film fan. He dropped out of the University to make a living as a comedy writer which later became successful. Hughes wrote jokes for Rodney Dangerfield and Joan Rivers who were professional comedians in the industry. He also wrote the script for the black comedy 鈥淣ational Lampoon鈥檚 Class Reunion,鈥 “Mr Mom,” 鈥淣ational Lampoon鈥檚 Vacation,鈥 鈥淪ixteen Candles,鈥 鈥淐urly Sue鈥 and several other comedy films. He continued to create some of the best memorable comedy films throughout his career until he suffered a heart attack and died on August 6, 2009.

7. John Adams

John Adams was an attorney, diplomat, writer and statesman who was born on October 30, 1735, in Braintree, Massachusetts Bay. He was the first person to hold the office of the vice president and he served for two terms (1789- 1797) under President George Washington. Later on, he was elected as the second president of the United States in 1796 and he served until 1801. He became the only president to be elected under the banner of the Federalist Party. Before, he was a leader of the American Revolution and served as a diplomat in Europe. He together with his wife Abigail Adams, created the Adams political family which was a line of politicians, historians and diplomats. Adams, unfortunately, succumbed to death on July 4, 1826.

8. John Krasinski

Krasinski is an actor and filmmaker who was born on October 20, 1979, in Boston, Massachusetts. He went on to pursue theatre arts at Brown University and the National Theater Institute. His first stage experience was starring in a satirical high school play, written and cast by his classmate Novak. He later worked as a script intern on Late Night in 1993 and made his big screen debut in 2002. Krasinski also played his role as Jim Halpert on the National Broadcasting Company sitcom The Office. Other film credits include; Something Borrowed, Promised Land, Aloha, License to Wed, Big Miracle and so many others.

9. John Oliver

John Oliver was born on April 23, 1977, in Birmingham, England. He is known as a comedian, producer, actor and writer. He began his career as a stand-up comedian and later on worked for The Daily Show as a writer and the show鈥檚 guest host. He was also famous for hosting Last Week Tonight with John Oliver which was an HBO series which won fourteen Emmy Awards and two Peabody Awards. He also acted in the role of Professor Ian Duncan on the National Broadcasting Company Sitcom Community and in the films, “The Smurfs,” and 鈥淭he Lion King.鈥

10. John Denver

He was born on December 31, 1943, in Roswell, New Mexico. He was talented as a guitarist singer, composer, actor, humanitarian and environmentalist. Despite his early tough childhood where they kept moving every time, Denver became good at what he was doing. He was known for acoustic folk music which he began with when he was starting his career in the late 1960s. He produced 33 albums, recorded and released 300 songs and composed about 200 songs. He also played several roles in different films such as “Oh, God.”  In 1997 Denver, unfortunately, died in a crash while he was piloting.

11. John C. Reilly

Reilly was born on May 24, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois to a father of Irish descent and a Lithuanian-American mother. Reilly was a known actor, singer, comedian, voice actor producer and screenwriter. He attended the Goodman School of Drama and later he became a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre. He rose to fame by playing supporting roles in several films: What鈥檚 Eating Gilbert Grape, Days of Thunder, and River Wild. He also starred in Hard Eight, Magnolia, Boogie Nights and several other films. Reilly received both Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor. He performed in a band and worked as a stage actor in True West which was nominated for the Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Play. He has continued to widen his film collection by appearing in several other films.

12. John Cazale

He was born on August 12, 1935, in Revere Massachusetts to his mother Cecilia and his father John Cazale. He was an actor who starred in only five films during his seven-year career journey. The films included The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, The Conversation, The Deer Hunter and Dog Day Afternoon. All these films were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1977 and in 1978 he died after completing his role in The Deer Hunter.

13. John Singleton

Singleton was born on January 6, 1968, in Los Angeles, California. He was a director, screenwriter and producer who became the first youngest African American to have ever been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director in Boyz n the Hood film (1991). After being nominated for that award Singleton wrote and directed several other films such as Higher Learning, Rosewood, Poetic Justice, Shaf, Baby Boy, Four Brothers, 2 Fast 2 Furious and many others. Singleton’s films represented the African-American culture and the themes focused on black masculinity, racism, ethnicity and trauma. He was also nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award. He died on April 28, 2019, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

14. John Boyega

John Boyega is a British actor who was born on March 17, 1992, in London England. He trained at the Identity School of Acting in Hackney and he appeared in Six Parties at the National Theatre and Tricycle Theatre before being offered a role in the film Attack the Block (2011) which made him rise to prominence. His international breakthrough came from the films; Star Wars, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. In 2016, he won the BAFTA Rising Award and the Trophee Chopard at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. He was cited by the New African Magazine as the Top 100 most influential Africans in 2020. His other credits include Half of a Yellow Sun (2013), Live Another Day (2014) Imperial Dreams (2014) and Detroit (2017).

15. John Cusack

John Paul Cusack was a famous actor, screenwriter, producer and political activist who was born on June 28, 1966, to his father Dick Cusack a filmmaker. His sisters Ann and Joan were also actresses. Cusack began acting in films during the 1980s and the films he starred in include; Better Off Dead (1985), Say Anything (1989), Bullets Over Broadway (1994), Gross Pointe Blank (1997), Being John Malkovich (1999), High Fidelity (2000), 1408 (2007), Igor (2008), 2012 (2009), The Raven (2012) and Love and Mercy (2014).

He gained popularity when he starred in several Western and war movies during the Golden Age and captured the hearts and attention of the audience. He was popular on the screen in 1920 and during the course of his career, he appeared in more than 179 film and movie productions cementing the fact that he was a phenomenal actor who was well-liked by the public. Some of the most notable films and movies that he appeared in include The Searchers (1956), True Grit (1969), The Quiet Man (1952), The Longest Day (1962) and The Shootist (1976).

17 John Locke

Popularly known as the father of liberalism, John Locke was one of the most influential people in Britain. He contributed heavily to the social contract theory and some of his ideas were heavily relied upon by other philosophers like Immanuel Kant, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and David Hume. His work on classical republicanism and liberal theory is seen in the United States Declaration of Independence. Furthermore, his take on the theory of mind builds the foundation of other works by several philosophers about the self and identity. John Locke was truly an influential figure in history with his work leaving a big impact in the field of philosophy.

Coltrane was an acclaimed jazz saxophonist, composer and bandleader who was influential in the music industry during the 20th century. He majored in free jazz, modal jazz, avant-garde jazz and hard bop genres in his career. The artist started his career in music quite early after he finished high school in Philadelphia having studied music. His career picked up well and in the course of his career, he composed hits that were well-received by his audience. A notable example is his album A Love Supreme (1965) which even earned him posthumous awards. This shows that he was a talented artist who knew what he was doing.

19 John Keats

Keats was an English poet who was among the second-generation romantic poets in England. Even though his career as a poet was short having died from tuberculosis just four years after his poems had been published, he made a big impact in literature as his works were used as a point of reference by other writers later. His writing featured sensualities that evoked emotions and created a vivid image in the reader鈥檚 mind. His works are still well-liked to date.

21 John Steinbeck

Steinbeck was a celebrated American author who was famed for his portal of the challenges that ordinary people were going through during the great depression. Most of his work features themes like human dignity, social justice and the social challenges of the Great Depression. The Grapes of Wrath is one of his most famous novels. It even won him the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1940 and is still considered one of America’s greatest literary works. His other book, Of Mice and Men, is another successful novel that explores the theme of friendship and loneliness that Ranch workers faced in the Great Depression while working to achieve the American Dream. John鈥檚 writing features vivid descriptions and deep empathy that attract book lovers and has also won him many awards and accolades.

22 John Quincy Adams

John Quincy Adams was the 6th President of the United States of America. His term ran from 1825 to 1829. The president was already familiar with being in power in that he was the son of the second president of the United States John Adams. Before his term as president, he worked as a diplomat. He was instrumental in negotiating the treaty that ended the war between the United States of America and Britain in 1812. as a diplomat. He was instrumental in negotiating the Treaty of Ghent, which resulted in the end of the war between the United States and Britain in 1812. While working as the president he advocated for educational advancement and modernization but his efforts were futile as the Congress did not agree with him. He later went on to serve in the House of Representatives 

23 John Cochran

John Cochran who is popularly known by just his surname is a former television reality star and American television writer. He came into the limelight when he became a contestant in the 23rd season of Survivor, South Pacific when he came out in the eighth place. He then returned in the 26th season and in this season he was successful as he emerged the winner and won the title of sole survivor along with a total sum of $1 million. From then, he went on to become a writer for several highly acclaimed sitcoms on CBS like Kevin Can Wait, The Millers and Star Trek: Lower Decks.

24 J.M Coetzee

The South African and Australian novelist is one of the celebrated figures in the world of literature. He is also an essayist, linguist and translator. His incredible work in the English language made him the recipient of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Literature. His book Life & Times of Michael K earned him a Booker Prize in 1983. He also won the prize the second time in 1999 for his work in Disgrace thus becoming the first writer to be awarded the prize twice. He has won several other awards like the CNA Literary Awards, two Commonwealth Writer鈥檚 Prizes that were presented to him by the queen in 2000, the Lannan Literary Award and the Sunday Express Book of the Year. The writer is an inspiration to young writers and creatives who are getting into the field as they see that they can also achieve great things.

25 John Anderson

John Anderson is a celebrated sports commentator who has been working in the ESPN TV Program SportsCenter for more than 25 years since 1999. After finishing college at the University of Missouri where he did Journalism, he went on to work for KOTV-TV in Oklahoma, KTUL-TV in Tulsa and KPHO-TV in Phoenix before he moved to where he is working now. Anderson has been recognized to be good at what he does and has been recognized through different awards like Bill Teegins Excellence in Sportscasting Award in 2011. 27 John Hunter Nemechek

The notable figure is a professional stock car racing driver. He drives the No. 4 Ford Mustang for Front Row Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series. Nemechek has also participated in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series, where he has had success with many victories and postseason trips. John Dalton was a well-known chemist, meteorologist and physicist who is known for his work on the Atomic theory which laid the foundation for modern chemistry. He proposed the concept of atomic chemistry by stating that matter was made up of different invisible particles known as atoms each having their own properties. When the atoms combined, they formed compounds. The scientists also researched colour blindness and came up with the concept of Daltonism which is now known as colour blindness. Furthermore, he ventured into other topics like gases and how they behave under different temperatures. John Dalton is without a doubt one of the pioneers in the world of science.

 The American-Canadian novelist is an influential figure in the world of literature. He has had a successful career as a novelist with some of his work even being adapted into films. Some of his notable works include The World According to Garp, The Cider House Rules, A Widow for One Year and A Prayer for Owen Meany. He has also won notable awards for his work cementing the fact that he is a phenomenal writer. Some of the awards that he won include; The Academy Award for Best Screenplay and the National Book Award for Paperback General Fiction for his book The World According to Garp.

30 John Bonham

Recognised as one of the best and most important rock drummers in history, John Bonham was an incredible  English musician and drummer. He was the drummer for the renowned rock group Led Zeppelin, and the sound of the band was greatly influenced by his strong, quick, and unique drumming. Many of Led Zeppelin’s well-known songs were supported by the rhythmic grooves of Bonham, whose forceful playing was praised for its intricacy, tone, and musicality. His performances on recordings, such as the magnificent “Stairway to Heaven,” demonstrated his extraordinary virtuosity. Tragically, hypoxia claimed Bonham’s life in 1980 at the age of 32, and Led Zeppelin disbanded shortly after.

The American politician is well known for being the 53rd Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015.  He began his political career in the Ohio state legislature where he served from 1985 to 1990. He then ran for Congress, won and served in the House of Representatives for 25 years. While serving as the speaker, he was instrumental in shaping the various legislative agendas like healthcare reform, national debt and budgetary matters that were brought to the House.

He is famed for being the first American to orbit the earth, an adventure that he took in February 1962 in the Friendship 7 spacecraft. He first served as a pilot during the Korean War as well as the Second World War. Therefore, his historic trip on the spacecraft cemented his status as a national hero who was an inspiration to many Americans. In the spirit of serving his country, he later became a U.S. Senator for the state of Ohio where he served from 1974 to 1999. His career was characterised by service to the people and his country.

33 John Travolta

Famed for his parts in landmark films like “Grease” (1978) and “Saturday Night Fever” (1977), John Travolta is an American actor, singer, and dancer. Travolta, who was born in Englewood, New Jersey, on February 18, 1954, became well-known in the 1970s for his captivating stage shows and dancing prowess. His performance in “Saturday Night Fever” as Tony Manero earned him an Academy Award nomination. In the 1990s, Travolta’s career had a rebirth thanks to appearances in the films “Get Shorty” (1995) and “Pulp Fiction” (1994). The actor is still making an impact in Hollywood to date.

34 John the Baptist

Born to elderly parents, the propjet spent most of his life in the wilderness preaching about repentance. He also baptized Jesus Christ fulfilling the prophecies of the Old Testament, he was later imprisoned by King Herod and executed. His teachings still inspire Christians around the world.

35 John Muir

Muir was a Scottish-American naturalist, writer, environmental philosopher, and one of the first champions of wilderness preservation in the United States. Having left his birthplace of Scotland as a young man, Muir went to the United States and earned the nickname “John of the Mountains” for his exploration and restoration work in the American West. He was instrumental in the creation of the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Sequoia, Mount Rainier, and Petrified Forest national parks. Environmentalists are still motivated by Muir’s writings, which include “My First Summer in the Sierra” and “The Mountains of California.”
