2. Fashion Institute of Technology

The Fashion Institute of Technology is a public college in New York City and was founded in 1944. It is part of the State University of New York and focuses on art, business, design, mass communication, and technology connected to the fashion industry. Something unique about this institution is that it also has a museum. This museum was, founded in 1969 as the Design Laboratory, and includes collections of clothing, textiles, and accessories. The museum started exhibitions in the 1970s, where they would utilize collections on long-term loans from the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Over time, they started acquiring their own collection as well as thousands of textiles and other fashion-related materials.
