It makes sense that there are so many well-known movie and television dog stars since dogs are lovable, devoted, clever, and humorous. The fact that dogs have graced our televisions for more than a century may surprise you!

Over the years, we have come to know many noteworthy canines, some of which have gained more notoriety than others. Some of them aren鈥檛 even legally real! There鈥檚 a reason why our beloved dogs appear in so many TV series and films, cartoons, or fluffy realness, though.

Most people enjoy watching TV series and films that feature dogs, and some canines even succeed as stars in their own right. In the acting industry, there are a lot of dogs that have been in films or TV series over the years, some of them were even cartoon characters that gained notoriety.

1. Rin Tin Tin

One of the most recognizable TV dogs in history was a German Shepherd named Rin Tin Tin. The dog acted in The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin( 1954鈥1959).In this animated children鈥檚 program, Rin Tin Tin accompanied his closest friend Rusty, who became an orphan following an Indian raid. The story took place in the American West. Rusty and Rin Tin Tin worked to bring law and order to the American West while living in Fort Apache with US military personnel. 2. Comet

In the television series Full House, a widowed father raises his three children with assistance from the girl鈥檚 uncle and a friend. A gorgeous Golden Retriever named Buddy performed the role of Comet. He appeared in a lot of episodes as the family dog and was frequently the subject of amusing jokes thanks to his acting skills.

3. Gidget

You probably picture the small dog from the Taco Bell commercials when you hear the phrase 鈥淵o Quiero Taco Bell.鈥 Gidget, a cute little Chihuahua, played the Taco Bell dog from 1997 to 2000. As the mascot for the restaurant business, she won over Americans鈥 hearts.

Brian is not your typical dog. He enjoys martinis and converses and thinks like a person. The opera and driving are two things that Brian, a white Labrador, enjoys and who is intelligent, witty, and downright bright, can do. He acts like a typical dog sporadically, though.

5. Astro

In the cartoon series 鈥淭he Jetsons,鈥 a family was shown residing in space in the year 2062. The beloved family dog was named Astro and was voiced by Don Messick. He was a witty and valuable member of the Jetson family and a Great Dane. He became famous for saying 鈥淩uh-roh鈥 as a catchphrase.

6. Eddie

The title character of Kelsey Grammer鈥檚 Emmy-winning television series 鈥淔谤补蝉颈别谤鈥 appeared in episodes from 1993 to 2004. For the first six seasons, Moose the Dog played Eddie, a wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier. After he retired, his son Enzo played the final four seasons in his place. With Frasier, Eddie was renowned for his drawn-out gazes.

7. Toto From 鈥楾he Wizard of Oz

According to the Chicago Tribune, when Terry was about a year old, her parents left her at Spitz鈥檚 Hollywood Dog Training School. Terry was a tiny Cain Terrier born in 1933. Terry was chosen to be trained and kept by her trainer Carl Spitz and his wife Alice, who shortly brought her to the Paramount Studios to demonstrate her skills. When Terry was chosen by Shirley Temple to perform opposite her in Bright Eyes, Toto in The Wizard of Oz was soon after cast as Terry鈥檚 co-star. Terry鈥檚 gravestone is located at Hollywood Forever Cemetery; he passed away in 1945.

8. Petey From 鈥楾he Little Rascals鈥

Beginning in the 1920s, The Little Rascals was a well-liked television series. Pete the Pup, often known as Petey, was played by Pal the Wonder Dog, a Pit Bull with a peculiar ring around his eye. After Pal died in 1930, his son Pete took up the part, although, according to the website America Comes Alive, the ring around Pete鈥檚 eye had to be filled in with cosmetics.

9. Shaggy From 鈥楾he Shaggy Dog鈥

Lillybrad鈥檚 Sammy鈥檚 Shadow, sometimes known as Sam, was a purebred Old English Sheepdog who rose to fame after appearing in 1959鈥檚 Disney film The Shaggy Dog.

Sam was able to carry out nearly all of the scenes by himself, even though he only intended to perform the leading acting roles and leave other canines to perform the stunts, according to MousePlanet. At the Burbank Animal Shelter in California, Sam鈥檚 paw prints are indelible on concrete.

10. Scooby-Doo

Although Scooby-Doo was animated, his persona as the 鈥渟caredy cat鈥 dog is adorable. On CBS, 鈥淪cooby-Doo Where Are You?鈥 had its d茅but in 1969. Even after the series moved to ABC in 1975, the Hannah-Barbera-produced program continued to play a significant role in Saturday morning cartoons. The animation continued in syndication until 1986. Years later, films were introduced by Scooby-Doo. The Great Dane companion Scooby-Doo assists his human friends in solving crimes.

11. Backup (Veronica Mars)

In the UPN/CW television series that aired through 2007, Backup was Veronica Mars’s (Kristen Bell鈥檚) devoted and loyal pet. Backup was first portrayed by a Pit Bull named Lefty, then by an American Bulldog named Gordo. On the TV series 鈥淰eronica Mars,鈥 backup acted as a protector for teenagers and young adults. After her best friend was killed, Veronica, a high school student from southern California, decided to become a private investigator. Throughout all of Veronica Mars鈥 noir escapades, Backup stayed devoted to her.

12. Tiger (The Brady Bunch)

鈥淭he Brady Bunch鈥濃檚 hairy pet was a tiger. In the first several seasons of the television show, Tiger made an appearance in a lot of episodes. Even in the pilot, the much-loved dog made an appearance when he caused mayhem by chasing a cat during the wedding of Mike (Robert Reed) and Carol (Florence Henderson). Tiger played a significant role in the family and appeared in several episodes, notably the one in which items kept vanishing from the Brady home.

13. Santa鈥檚 Little Helper (The Simpsons)

Santa鈥檚 Little Helper on 鈥淭he Simpsons鈥 is another animated pet dog who captured viewers鈥 hearts. The dog is abandoned by its owner at the racecourse after it finishes last, and Homer and Bart Simpson take it in.

The Simpson Family includes the greyhound as a significant member. Santa鈥檚 Little Helper is mentioned in stories because of the staff writers鈥 personal experiences. Santa鈥檚 Little Helper has surgery, has puppies, graduates from obedience school, adopts the Duff Beer mascot identity, and enrolls in the Springfield police academy during the series.

14. Cinnamon (The Big Bang Theory)

Raj鈥檚 (Kunal Nayyar) best companion is Cinnamon, an adorable Yorkshire Terrier. Raj receives the dog as a companion from his pals Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) while he is having trouble with his love life. Raj likes taking care of the dog. Howard even creates a game called 鈥淓mily or Cinnamon鈥 in which Raj鈥檚 pals had to determine whether Raj was referring to his fianc茅e or his dog when he made certain statements.

15. Jack (Little House on the Prairie)

The beloved sheepdog Jack had a significant role in the Ingalls family. In 1974, Jack took part in the 鈥淟ittle House on the Prairie鈥 television series鈥 world premiere. The 1870s and 1880s saw the Ingalls family settling on the American frontier, and the NBC series chronicled their life and exploits during that time.

The middle child of the natural family, Laura Ingalls Wilder, wrote books for young adults that served as the inspiration for the television series. Jack becomes disoriented while foraging in the first episode, but the family finds him. While Jack was a bulldog in the books, Barney, the actor who played Jack, was a scruffy sheepdog who became friends with Pa (Michael Landon) and Laura (Melissa Gilbert).

A significant character in the first three seasons of 鈥淟ittle House on the Prairie鈥 was Jack, who was the Ingalls鈥 pet until Laura discovered him dead in the barn with foxtails lodged in his ears. On the NBC television show 鈥淢ad About You,鈥 Paul and Lisa Buchman鈥檚 dog was named Murray. The program debuted in 1992 and remained a staple of NBC鈥檚 primetime schedule until its cancellation in 1999.

The program centers on a young, professional couple living in Manhattan. The couple鈥檚 pet dog contributes to the warmth and humor of the program. Helen Hunt portrayed Paul Buchman鈥檚 wife, Lisa, while Paul Reiser portrayed Paul Buchman. Murray, a Border Collie mix, was performed by Maui, a skilled television acting dog.

The staff and other actors reportedly adored Murray and he came to every day of filming with a positive attitude. The 2005 holiday film 鈥淪anta鈥檚 Sleigh鈥 featured Maui as well.

17. Digby (Pushing Daisies)

The ABC television program 鈥淧ushing Daisies鈥 was a 鈥渇orensic fairy tale drama鈥 that ran from 2007 to 2009. Lee Pau played Ned in the television series. Ned is a man who learned how to resurrect the dead as a child.

Ned initially discovered the talent when he was able to revive his dog after it was struck by a car. Chuck (Anna Friel), a departed childhood friend of Ned鈥檚, and his dog Digby work together to solve crimes. A lovely Golden Retriever portrays Digby. Digby, unlike some other TV dogs, was crucial to the plot of the show and added warmth as well as humor.

18.Dreyfus (Empty Nest)

Dr. Harry Weston (Richard Mulligan), portrayed a recently widowed pediatrician living in Miami, Florida, with a pet dog named Dreyfus. Before 鈥淓mpty Nest,鈥 the 鈥淕olden Girls鈥 spinoff, debuted in 1988, Weston and Dreyfus were depicted as neighbors.

In the television comedy 鈥淓mpty Nest,鈥 Dr. Weston resides with his two adult daughters. NBC broadcast the show until 1995. A dog named Bear played the role of Dreyfus. Bear was a Golden Retriever and Saint Bernard Cross. The dog served as Dr. Weston鈥檚 companion and offered comic relief for the show.

19. Boomer (Here鈥檚 Boomer)

On NBC, 鈥淗ere鈥檚 Boomer鈥 made its debut in 1980. Boomer was a stray dog who assisted people wherever he went. A mixed-breed dog named Johnny played the role of the canine. 鈥淗ere鈥檚 Boomer鈥 was influenced by documentaries about Benji, a wandering mixed-breed dog that assisted people.

Each week, the cast was varied as a result of the people Boomer encountered and assisted. The 1980 Young Artist Award for Best TV Series For Family Entertainment went to 鈥淗ere鈥檚 Boomer鈥. Up until its conclusion in 1982, 鈥淗ere鈥檚 Boomer鈥 remained a well-liked and motivational television program.

20. Fluke, Fluke (1995)

This movie about a dog that tries to resolve the karma from his past life as a human received harsh criticism, but it has (forgive the pun) found new life on video and cable. Workaholic Matthew Modine is reborn as Fluke the dog after dying in a vehicle accident. He goes looking for his kid and wife, who are unaware of who he is. Although the POV dog shots are fantastic, the themes of death, abuse, and retribution are perhaps too serious for most children.
