From mythical creatures to epic journeys in faraway lands, magic and fantastical storytelling have always held a special place in our hearts. It’s no surprise then, that the fantasy genre has flourished on the big screen, captivating audiences with tales of wonder and possibility.

Thinking back to my childhood, a part of me yearned to receive my Hogwarts letter after watching Harry Potter for the first time. Did you?

J.K. Rowling’s creation perfectly exemplifies the power of fantasy films to transport us to extraordinary worlds, sparking our imaginations and leaving us breathless with awe.

However, magic isn’t just about spells and potions; it’s about the whisper of mythical creatures in the forest, the courage of a young hero facing impossible odds, and the captivating narratives that transport us beyond the ordinary.

This list isn’t just for fans of literal magic wands and shimmering spells. It’s for anyone who seeks stories that ignite wonder, explore fantastical realms, and introduce us to unforgettable characters, both human and mythical.

1. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005)

It’s got everything you could want in a magical movie: mythical creatures, epic battles, spells, and a heartwarming message about family, courage, and believing in yourself.

The 2005 movie was the first in the series that includes 2008’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and 2010’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader with a fourth on the way.

Dev plays Sir Gawain, a young knight who takes on a weird challenge from a mysterious Green Knight. His quest leads him on a wild ride through fantastical landscapes, where he meets talking foxes, giants, and all sorts of other strange stuff.

It’s not your typical knight-in-shining-armor story, but more like a deep dive into what it means to be brave, make tough choices, and face your fears.

It’s visually stunning, thought-provoking, and might leave you scratching your head a bit (in a good way!), but definitely worth checking out.

They’re constantly dodging the clutches of the villainous Count Olaf (played by the hilarious Jim Carrey), who’s after their fortune and not afraid to get creative with his evil schemes.

Think booby traps, disguises, and lots of over-the-top antics. It’s a fun mix of slapstick, gothic vibes, and a touch of magic that’s perfect for the whole family (except maybe the very little ones, some parts might be a tad spooky).
