Even though men have outnumbered women when it comes to business ownership, according to various sources women’s entrepreneurship has been growing around the world. However, women entrepreneurs in developing economies face several challenges, including a lack of access to finance and legal inequalities, such as restrictions on owning or managing property. Therefore women entrepreneurs in already developed countries have played a big impact in other developing countries.

These women have become influential in encouraging other women not to give up when it comes to entrepreneurship as it gives them financial freedom and satisfies their lives in one or the other. Diane Marie Hendricks is an American billionaire businesswoman and film producer. Her husband was Ken Hendrick. Before she married Ken Diane was selling custom-built homes while Ken was a roofing contractor. After the two got married, Ken and Diane became partners in marriage and business. In 1982 they secured a loan with the help of their credit line thus allowing them to build the ABC supply. It is the nation鈥檚 largest wholesale distributor of residential and commercial roofing, windows, gutters, and siding.

Hendricks is not only the owner and founder of ABC Supply but also the Hendricks Holding Company.  Forbes estimated her net worth to be $2.8 billion in March 2012 and $11.1 billion by August 2021. Additionally, Forbes named Hendricks the richest self-made woman in the United States in 2018.

Oprah Gail Winfrey is an American talk show host, television producer, actress, author, and philanthropist. She is best known for her Chicago-based talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired in national syndication for 25 years, from 1986 to 2011. Sheryl Kara Sandberg is a business executive, billionaire, and philanthropist from the United States. Sandberg served as Meta Platforms’ chief operating officer (COO). However, on August 2022 Sheryl officially resigned from the position. She is also the founder of LeanIn.Org.Sandberg.

She was named to the Time 100, an annual list of the world’s most influential people, in 2012. Sandberg is reported to have a net worth of US$1.7 billion, according to Forbes Magazine’s 2021 billionaires list, due to her stock holdings in Facebook and other companies.

Zhou Qunfei is a Chinese businessman who founded the major touchscreen manufacturer Lens Technology. Her net worth reached US$10 billion following the public listing of her company on the Shenzhen ChiNext market in March 2015, making her the richest woman in China.  With a net worth of $10 billion, she was named the world’s richest self-made woman in 2018.

 In 1993, at the age of 22, she started her business after the factory closed. Customers were enticed by the company’s promise of higher-quality watch lenses. Her big break came in 2001 when her company won a lucrative contract to manufacture mobile phone screens for the Chinese electronics behemoth TCL Corporation.  Zhou stated that she has founded 11 businesses over the years.

She is the founder and executive chairperson of Biocon Limited and Biocon Biologics Limited, both of which are based in Bangalore, India. She received the Othmer Gold Medal in 2014 for her outstanding contributions to the advancement of science and chemistry. 9. Zhang Xin

Zhang Xin is a Chinese billionaire businesswoman who made her fortune primarily in real estate. She co-founded and was the former CEO of SOHO China, a Chinese office building developer, with her husband Pan Shiyi.  Even though she was raised in poverty in Beijing and Hong Kong, whereby she worked as a factory worker, Xin, later on, came to rise through the ranks of becoming the owner of companies that are responsible for dozens of real estate developments in Beijing and Shanghai. Zhang began transitioning from a business model of building and selling properties to one of buying and leasing them in the mid-2010s. Zhang was named the 62nd most powerful woman in the world by Forbes in 2014 and is “regularly named one of the world’s most powerful women.”

Indra Nooyi is an Indian-American business executive and former PepsiCo CEO and Chairman. She has consistently been named one of the world’s top 100 most powerful women. She was ranked 13th on Forbes’ list of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women in 2014. and was named Fortune’s second most powerful woman in 2015 and 2017. She also serves on the boards of the International Cricket Council and Amazon.

Forbes ranked her as the 93rd most powerful woman in the world in 2014.

Wang Laichun is a Chinese billionaire, chairwoman, and co-founder of the electronics manufacturer Luxshare Precision Industry Co., Ltd.  It was founded in 2004 in Dongguan, China. The company designs and manufactures computer cables and also an Apple AirPods key assembler.  In 2010, the company was publicly listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange’s SME board.

Even though it was reported that not only was she one of the world鈥檚 youngest self-made female billionaires at the age of 46 but was the second-richest woman in China in 2021. Before she established the Luxshare precision industry with her brother she worked for Foxconn for about ten years.

14. Cher Wang

She is the co-founder and chairperson of HTC Corporation and integrated chipset maker VIA Technologies. In 1982, Wang joined First International Computer (FIC). In addition, she and her colleagues established VIA in 1987 and HTC in 1997. Both companies’ core products are smartphones. Denise Coates CBE is a British businesswoman who is the founder, majority shareholder, and joint CEO of the online gambling company Bet365.  Coates owns approximately half of Bet365. As of December 2022, her fortune is estimated to be $5.2 billion. She is one of the wealthiest women in Britain, according to the Sunday Times Rich list, and has been the highest-paid chief executive in Britain for several years as of 2021.

In August 2012, Coates established the Bet365 Foundation which was renamed in February 2016. It is a registered charity under English law and as of 2014, it had donated 拢100 million to twenty UK charities. It also donated 拢10 million to University Hospitals of North Midlands in April 2020 to support staff fighting the coronavirus. In 2022, the charity donated 拢1 million to help Ukrainian families.

Folorunsho Alakija is a Nigerian philanthropist and billionaire businesswoman.  She works in the fashion, oil, real estate, and printing industries. She is the Group Managing Director of The Rose of Sharon Group, which includes The Rose of Sharon Prints & Promotions Limited, Digital Reality Prints Limited, and Famfa Oil Limited.

Alakija also owns a controlling interest in Day Spring Property Development Company.  Forbes ranks Folorunsho Alakija as Nigeria’s richest woman, with a net worth of $1 billion as of 2020. According to Forbes, Alakija is the second most powerful woman in Africa after Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the 87th most powerful woman in the world.

Rinehart is the Executive Chairman of Hancock Prospecting, which was founded by her father, Lang Hancock, and is a privately held mineral exploration and extraction company. When she acquired Hancock Prospecting, its total wealth was estimated to be A$75 million, excluding group liabilities and contingent liabilities. She oversaw the company’s expansion over the next decade, and due to the iron ore boom of the early 2000s, she became a nominal billionaire in 2006. 

She is considered the wealthiest individual in Australia since her wealth spiked to around A$29 billion in 2012. Unfortunately, her wealth steadily declined over the next few years because the Australian mining sector was stalled. However, her wealth was rebuilt during 2020 due to increased demand for Australian iron ore, so by May 2021, her net worth was estimated to be more than A$30 billion as published in the 2021 Financial Review Rich List.

Sophia Christina Amoruso is a businesswoman from the United States. She founded Nasty Gal which was is women’s fashion retailer that was named one of Inc. Magazine’s “fastest growing companies” in 2012. Forbes named her one of the world’s richest self-made women in 2016.  Nasty Gal, on the other hand, was declared bankrupt. Later on, Amoruso founded Girlboss Media in 2017, a company that creates content for women in the millennial generation to advance as individuals in their personal and professional lives.

Huda Kattan is an American model and actress. She is also a makeup artist, beauty blogger, and entrepreneur. Kattan launched a cosmetics line called “Huda Beauty” in 2013, the same name as her blog.  Her first product, a line of false eyelashes, was distributed by Sephora. The company sells home furnishings as well as other items. They sell in stores, online, and by mail.  In February 2010, the company was valued at 拢75,000,000. Kidston is well-known for her floral patterns.

She started her first store after overcoming breast cancer in Holland Park in London. She had breast cancer when she was 37 years. It was first opened in 1993. The shop sold hand-embroidered tea towels as well as brightly refurbished furniture. [It was later described as a “glorified junk shop” by Kidston. As of April 2011, she had 41 stores and concessions in the UK. Two more are in Ireland, eleven are in Japan, and three are in Korea. MacKenzie Scott is a novelist and philanthropist from the United States. She has a net worth of US$27 billion as of December 2022, which may be impacted by the  4% stake in Amazon, the company founded by her ex-husband Jeff Bezos. Scott is thus the third-wealthiest woman in the United States and the 35th-wealthiest person in the world.  Forbes named Scott one of the world’s most powerful women in 2021, and Time named her one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2020. 

She has been the executive director of the anti-bullying organization Bystander Revolution since its inception in 2014.  Scott made various charitable contributions since 2020.  However, had donated a total of $14 billion to over 1600 charitable organizations as of mid-December 2022.  This might be influenced by the fact that as a signatory to the Giving Pledge, she has pledged to donate at least half of her wealth to charity.

Carolyn Aronson is an American author and an American Latina businesswoman who founded It’s a 10 Haircare.  She decided to become a hairdresser when she was 18 years and later in 1998 she started Allianza salon in Michigan. In addition, in 2002, Aronson and Scott Scharg co-founded the styling product line LINQ. For its product line, the company used multiple vendors and had significant quality control issues but it was eventually demolished in 2005.

Susan Diane is a Polish-American business executive who has served as YouTube’s CEO since 2014. In 2022, her net worth was estimated to be $765 million.  She has been in the technology industry for over 20 years. Susan became the first marketing manager of Google in 1999. In addition, the Freedom Forum Institute dedicated to advancing First Amendment freedoms that were presented by Wojcicki with the “Free Expression Award” on April 15, 2021. Her platform was criticized for sponsoring the award ceremony.  In

Debbi Fields serves as the founder and spokesperson of the Mrs. Fields Bakeries’  She has written several cookbooks and enjoys baking cookies. She moved to Nashville in 2014 after living in Memphis for over 16 years since remarrying in 1997. Michael David Rose, her late husband, was the former CEO/Chairman of Holiday Corp. and Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. She is the founder and CEO of Act鈥1 Group, the first woman-owned and African-American-owned billion-dollar company in the United States.  The first African-American woman to own a billion-dollar business. She is a member of the National Women鈥檚 Business Council, the National Advisory Board of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, and the Board of Directors of the Minority Business Development Agency.

Howroyd has received numerous awards and accolades for her work, including being named one of the 鈥淢ost Powerful Women in Business鈥 by Fortune magazine, one of the 鈥淭op 25 Women of Influence鈥 by Black Enterprise magazine, and one of the 鈥淢ost Influential Business Leaders鈥 by the Los Angeles Business Journal.

42. Madam C.J. Walker

Madam C.J. Walker was an African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political activist who rose from poverty to become the first female self-made millionaire in the United States. She was the founder of the Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company, which sold beauty and hair products specifically for African American women. In addition to her business success, Walker was an active civil rights advocate and donated money to charities and civil rights organizations.  Walker’s success as an entrepreneur and civil rights activist served as a source of inspiration for many and she remains a role model for many African American women today.

43. Shunne Yee

Shunee Yee is not only the President and CEO of CSOFT International and CSOFT Health Sciences but is also in charge of CSOFT’s operations across three continents and is responsible for its organic growth from a two-bedroom apartment start-up to an industry leader.

Ms. Yee serves on the Academic Board of Dexter Southfield School, and she is a member of the A Taste of Ginger Committee, an event hosted by the world-renowned Joslin Center to raise awareness and funds for the Asian American Diabetes Initiative.

44. Victoria Ransom

Victoria Ransom is a New Zealand serial entrepreneur. She founded three businesses, including Wildfire Interactive, a social marketing SaaS company where Ransom served as CEO until it was acquired by Google in 2012.

Ransom was named one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs in 2012, as well as one of their 40 Under 40. The World Economic Forum also named her a Young Global Leader in 2015.

45. Emma Grede

Emma Grede is a British entrepreneur who co-founded and is CEO of Good American, is a founding partner of Skims, and co-founded Safely.  Grede founded and was CEO of Independent Talent Brand (ITB) Worldwide, which is a London-based talent management and entertainment marketing agency, in 2008 after working as a producer at a fashion show and events company Inca Productions. Later on, she left ITB after it was acquired by Rogers & Cowan in 2018.

In addition, Grede appears as a guest shark on the first episode of Shark Tank’s 13th season in 2021. To be promoted as not only the show’s first black woman but also the show’s first bi-racial woman: her mother is white and her father is black.

46. Kris Jenner

Kristen Mary Jenner is a media personality, socialite, and businesswoman from the United States. She rose to prominence as a regular on the reality television show Keeping Up with the Kardashians (2007鈥2021). Jenner not only runs Jenner Communications, which is based in Los Angeles, but also has managed the careers of her daughters Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall, and Kylie since before the premiere of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She also manages the businesses of her other two daughters and son.

47. Kathy Ireland

Kathleen Marie Ireland is an author, entrepreneur, fashion designer, philanthropist, and former fashion model from the United States. Ireland rose to prominence as a supermodel in the 1980s and 1990s, appearing in 13 consecutive Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues, including three covers. In 1993, she founded kathy ireland Worldwide (kiWW). A brand licensing company that has made her one of the world’s wealthiest former models. By 2015, she had amassed a personal fortune of $420 million as a result of her business career.  Her company generated $3.1 billion in retail sales in 2021 alone. The brand was ranked 15th in the world, and Ireland was inducted into the Licensing Hall of Fame. 

48. Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Fuller Olsen also known as the Olsen twins are former actresses and fashion designers. As infants, the twins made their acting debut as Michelle Tanner on the television series Full House. Mary-Kate and Ashley began starring together in other TV shows, films, and video projects when they were six years old, and this continued into their adolescence. The Olsens rose quickly through their company Dualstar to become among the wealthiest women in the entertainment industry.

49. Jessica Alba

Jessica Marie Alba is an American businesswoman and actress. She first appeared on television and in films at the age of 13 in Camp Nowhere and The Secret World of Alex Mack (1994) and rose to prominence at the age of 19 as the lead actress in the television series Dark Angel (2000-2002), for which she received a Golden Globe nomination.  Alba co-founded The Honest Company, a consumer goods company that sells baby, personal, and household items, in 2011. Magazines such as Men’s Health, Vanity Fair, and FHM have all named her one of the world’s most beautiful women.

50. Jessica Simpson

Jessica Ann Simpson Johnson is an American singer, actress, philanthropist, and entrepreneur. Simpson signed with Columbia Records in 1997, aged seventeen, after performing in church choirs as a child. Sweet Kisses (1999), her debut studio album, sold two million copies in the United States, and the single “I Wanna Love You Forever” was a commercial success.

Aside from her musical endeavors, Simpson launched The Jessica Simpson Collection, a fashion-focused line with 34 product categories, in 2005. The brand has earned more than $1 billion in revenue to date, making it the most successful celebrity licensing brand in history. She also appeared on the reality show The Price of Beauty in 2010 and judged clothing designs on two seasons of Fashion Star between 2012 and 2013.

Gwen Stefani is a singer, songwriter, fashion designer, and actress from the United States. She is a co-founder, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter for the band No Doubt, whose singles include “Just a Girl,” “Spiderwebs,” and “Don’t Speak” from their debut studio album Tragic Kingdom in 1995, as well as “Hey Baby” and “It’s My Life” from subsequent albums.

Victoria Caroline Beckham OBE  is a fashion designer, singer, and television personality from England. She rose to prominence in the 1990s as a member of the Spice Girls, where she was known as Posh Spice. The group became the best-selling female group of all time after selling over 100 million records worldwide. Beckham was signed to Virgin Records after the Spice Girls split in 2001, and she released her self-titled debut solo album, which produced two UK Top 10 singles.

Beckham has established herself as an international style icon and fashion designer. After high-profile collaborations with other brands, she launched her label in 2008, followed by a lower-priced (diffusion) label in 2011. In 2011, the Victoria Beckham label was named designer brand of the year in the United Kingdom, and in 2012, it was named the star performer in the Beckham family’s business interests. In the 2017 New Year Honours, she was awarded an OBE for services to the fashion industry.

53. Rosalind Brewer

Brewer not only became the only Black woman at the helm of an S&P company but also became the only Black woman to sit on Amazon’s board in 2019. She was appointed in 2021 by Walgreens Boots to be its CEO.

However, Brewer helped bring  Sam’s club into the modern day with services such as the advanced online ordering of groceries when she was the CEO. In addition, Forbes listed her as one of the 13 power women in 2022.

54. Trisha Prabhu

Trisha is an activist and female entrepreneur. She is the co-founder of Rethink. Due to witnessing how cyberbullying and online harassment has negatively impacted teen, Trisha created an app called Rethink. The app tends to add   a keyboard to the smartphone and thus can detect and prevent hateful messages.

In addition, she has not only been featured in Forbes鈥 鈥30 Under 30鈥 list in the category of Social Impact but has also been featured on TED India and Shark Tank.

55. Jen Ensquer-Fraboni

Jen Esquer-Fraboni is popularly known as DocJen Fit. She founded her website, app, two fitness program, and the podcast while she was at university. Through her online content, she helps people all around the world to increase their mobility and get a better hold of their bodies. Jen has successfully grown her social media following to over 675k followers and has a thriving online business that she enjoys. She started her business by taking just a leap of faith which most of us do not dare to do. She has been listed as part of Time Magazine鈥檚 鈥100 Most Influential People鈥 list and also Part of Forbes鈥 鈥50 Over 50鈥 list (2021).
