Along with an upgraded controller speaker, the controller incorporates powerful voice coil actuators that produce strong haptic feedback for greater in-game feedback. Other upgrades to the new controller include a higher-rated battery and USB-C connectivity.

The user interface on the PlayStation 5 has been totally redone. Cerny stated that the transition to the new console is intended to be a smooth one, and the PlayStation 5 is backward-compatible with the majority of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR games.
