Elizabeth Singleton Moss was born on July 24, 1982. She is an American actor, producer, and director. Elizabeth is known for her work in several television dramas, she has earned accolades in two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards which led to her nickname “Queen of Peak TV”

Elizabeth began acting in the 1990s and first gained recognition for playing Zoey Bartlet in the NBC political drama series The West Wing. However, her role in the AMC period drama series Mad Men earned her more recognition. Through the series, she won the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Movie/ Miniseries and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress-Miniseries or Television Film for portraying Detective Robin Griffin in the BBC miniseries Top of the Lake.

Elizabeth has been able to produce and star as June Osborne in the Hulu dystopian drama series The Handmaid’s Tale, through the series she has won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama series and Outstanding Drama Series among other accolades.

In her adolescence, Elizabeth aspired to be a professional dancer. She traveled to New York City to study ballet at the School of American Ballet. Elizabeth went on to study with Suzanne Farrell at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Elizabeth continued to study dance through her teenage years but started getting acting roles as well.

To ensure she could manage her education and career, Elizabeth began homeschooling and graduated in 1999. By graduating high school, she had decided to focus more on her acting.

2. The Beginning of Her Career

Elisabeth’s first screen role was in 1990 when she appeared in the NBC miniseries Lucky/Chances. From 1992 to 1995 she appeared as Cynthia Parks in seven episodes of the TV series Picket Fences. Elisabeth provided the voice of Holly DeCarlo who was a main character in the TV special Frosty Return in 1992. 

In 1993, Elisabeth appeared in the television remake of the 1993 film Gypsy and played Harvey Keitel’s younger daughter in the film  Imaginary Crimes 1994. In 1995, she appeared in the remake of the Walt Disney Pictures Film Escape to Witch Mountain 1995. In the same year, she did more voice work for the animated series Freakazoid! and the television film Its Spring Training, Charlie Brown! 

In 1999, Elizabeth played the recurring role of Zoey Bartlet in the White House television drama The West Wing, she played the daughter of President Josiah Bartlet and First Lady Abbey Bartlet. The same year, she had a small role in the movie Mumfors, she played the daughter of a woman with a shopping addiction.

3. Her Personal Life

Elizabeth met Fred Armisen in October 2008, and the couple became engaged in January 2009. The couple had an October wedding in the same year in Long Island City, New York. They separated in 2010 but their divorce was finalized on May 13, 2011. Elisabeth has two children a daughter, Peggy, and a son, Fred 

Elizabeth is known for practicing Scientology, she has defined her beliefs on Instagram. She describes it as Religious freedom and tolerance and understanding the truth and equal rights for every race, religion, and creed are extremely important to her.

4. Her Role In The Handmaid’s Tale

In late 2016, Elisabeth was given the opportunity to star in the American dystopian television series The Handmaid’s Tale. The series is based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. The series was ordered by the popular streaming service Hulu, at first, it was meant to be a limited series of 10 episodes. She fitted well into the role of June, a vulnerable small woman said to have relied on her size to survive in society. Her height has always been an advantage to her over the other members of the acting team at 5’3″ tall. However, she always acts exemplary well in her roles.  In this particular one, she is not overweight for the role! Nevertheless, she wore larger padding outfits. In one instance she was held as a captive, a role that she played very well in the crowd that was escaping to Canada. In this role, her storyline has been altered many times because her role is important and vocal in the series.

Her character’s fertility makes her a perfect candidate for being a Handmaid to Commander Fred Waterford and his wife Serena Joy. June later becomes the handmaid to Commander Joseph Lawrence and is called Ofjoseph.
